Bad memories of high school art class.
I took a drawing class in high school and it sucked. I sat across a table from two other people- a boy with alopecia who spent the ENTIRE semester drawing images from, and talking about, Highlander, and a girl who was obsessed with Tori Amos and felt compelled to grace us with CONSTANT, strained renditions of Tori songs for the entire hour. My boyfriend was allowed to sit in the class since he had a study hall, and at one point he got into a physical altercation with another student who tried to steal his bag of chips. I did draw a nice picture of my hand. I don't know what happened to that.

1. wow. even though I have almost ZERO artistic
talent, I had a great time in HS Art...

I went to HS in France, and we sat around in this cave and drew animals on the walls. It was lots of fun. I wonder if they are still there?

2. I don't remember much of my high school art class...
it was first period. I wasn't awake yet.

All I remember was that my teacher was so ridiculously annoyingly PERKY at that time in the morning... :scared:

3. Darn.... and I always tell my students Art is the *best* class!
Sorry you had a lousy experience. Hope it wasn't the teacher's fault?

4. I took some art classes in high school
but the things I remember most about them are the time we made jewelry and the Cuban Missile Crisis. I have this recollection of sitting at my art class table listening to some P.A. announcement and waiting to blow up.

OK, I'm old.

5. I was a total teacher's pet in my high school art class.
It as great, haha. My best friend and I always sat in the back corner and did dick all, but our teacher loved us.

6. I had to bruise some annoying, thug-wannabe asshole once.
For some reason, he thought it would be high comedy to rub his ass on my back. (I'm a guy). His mistake.

That's most of what I remember. That and I caught a really nasty case of stomach flu from one of the other guys there.

7. let's see, the memories.....
our class was a well rounded crowd of a couple of preps, a few artsy folks, some quiet ones and...then there was my group,......let me think here

a small piece of clay went whizzing past the teachers head, narrowly missing her, it was not intended for her, as she was bent over helping a student, and stood up at the wrong time.. I think it was meant for the kid next to me, I ducked.

one of the preps said a very mean thing to me...then she volunteered to model while we painted a silhouette with india ink on a large piece of paper. I painted her silhouette fine, except for the pig nose on her face, got a D for the picture, and a dirty look from the other girl.

I did do some good work, tho. I made a small clay pot that the teacher used as a pencil holder for many years after I was gone. I learned to batik, and that was one of my favorite subjects in class, as well as macrame. In hindsight it was really a fun class, I guess that's why I took it for 2 years in HS.

8. The only time I got grades below a B were in art classes.
Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 10:31 PM by notmyprez
In a 9th grade art class, the teacher gave me a C+. I wasn't great at art, but I wasn't that bad; she didn't like me.

Then in college, my friend and I took an art class--life drawing, the class with a naked model every week. Everyone told us that the class was an easy 'B' if you showed up, and we both had tough schedules that semester so we thought it would be fun to take the class. Neither of us could draw, but I don't think that was the reason the professor gave us each a C+. I think the reason was because we always went to the class stoned and spent the whole time talking and laughing (not that our drawings would have been any better if we'd been straight). :smoke:

Edited to add: but I did have one cool art class in high school: silver jewelry making. I made myself a ring and some bracelets in that class.
