RIP Dad, November 23, 1908 - July 8, 1983
I lost my dad 25 years ago today. As a huge baseball nut, the last thing he did before his cerebral hemorrhage was watch the All-Star game. He was 17 years older than my mother and claimed he saw her on the street when she was 16 and said he was going to marry her someday. I made him an older daddy at age 53. He knew everyone's birthdays and was known as the "Birthday Man of El Dorado." I'm pretty sure he knew Obama's grandparents, as he seemed to know everyone in town. He made the best Sunday morning pancakes and homemade peach cream the old-fashioned way. He called me "Punkin" and "Sweetie." He worked two jobs to keep the family afloat, even into his 70s. He was so proud of my early ability to read that he took me into stores and had me read signs for people to hear. He was a Democrat who became a Republican, but during Reagan's first term said, "Reagan isn't for the little guy." I think he would have voted Democratic in 1984, had he lived. He loved baseball, football and anything I did, no matter how inconsequential or silly.

I love you, Dad!

1. God Bless You and Your Daddy
and thanks for sharing your memories. My Dad died 4 years ago and I still think of him. My Mom died 42 years ago and not a day goes by that I do not think of her and chat with her from time to time. We always have the memories.

My In laws are(were) from Kansas. I love the License Plate.

2. One of my early cars had a license plate with the last 4 digits of our phone number backwards
It was cool. It's so hard to lose parents - you never stop needing them, I think.

Bless you too.

10. He couldn't drive it, though!
He broke his leg in a car-train accident in 1955, and his leg wasn't set right. He always limped after that and thought he shouldn't drive, so Mom did all the driving. I learned to drive in that tank!
