I turned 16 that year. The Association was a big name at Monterey - although they were new, too. Jimi and Janis were bigger. But that was unexpected.

I think The Smothers Brothers are enormously underrated, for their talent and their influence.

Maybe they will be better appreciated now, as Barack takes on McCain, and much of the wisdom and humor they expressed then is applicable to now.

3. I was 9 yo in 1967. Probably at Campfire camp right about now.

I loved that camp. They taught us protest songs, beadwork and archery. Good times.

I spent four straight summers, 1970-1973, in northern Michigan as a camp counselor at a camp for Armenian kids.

I can't tell you what it meant to me. Yes, it was co-ed. That was part of it.

So very long ago, and so very important to everything that happened since.

'67 factiod:

17. I was in the 6th grade too.

I used to love the Smothers Brothers show. Also had several of the Association's 45s.

I'll give you another '67 factoid, this one involving the Smothers Brothers show: There were appearances by "Officer Judy," played by Bob Einstein, who today is better known as Super Dave Osborne. And, he is Albert Brooks' brother.

18. You are absolutely right. Pete Townshend's hearing has never recovered.

They put triple the powder charge into the video you link to. The destruction at the end was unplanned: Pete was genuinely pissed. I think Tommy handled it well, but the bottom line is that Pete has never fully recovered from that early appearance in 1967/68.

But the music has always been sublime.
