Argh, why must the post office be closed on weekends?
The video card that I ordered a few days ago arrived here in the city yesterday, but the post office is closed on weekends and of course there are no deliveries on weekends. The wait is killing me.

I'm gonna blame government bureaucrats.

Who wants to fly out here and help me organize a heist to liberate my video card from the clutches of government bureaucracy?

:P
UPS does Saturday deliveries if you request it, I assume the others do too.

My other computer stuff was shipped via private courier, no weekend deliveries there either.

11. Yeah, I want my video card, dammit!
My computer is just sitting here in the living room, fully built, save for the video card. It's depressing, haha.

13. Yeah, I finally got around to getting a half decent one myself.
Not great, but half decent. Eventually I'll probably get a new processor too, since that's gonna be the next performance bottleneck when it comes to new games. There are already a few out that I wouldn't mind getting but that won't run on my processor. I think the last one I looked at that was above my specs needed a 2.4 gigahertz minimum, and mind's a 2.1. And my new videocard is only a 256 meg, not the newest on the market, but it'll run most things.

Then again, I can't afford to buy the newest games anyway, so I guess it's a moot point. :P

14. Pssshhh, paying for games...
That's what the internet is for, fool!

Yeah, I just built a whole new system (save for HDDs and optical drives). Even bought a sexy new case for it all. Just need that damn video card.

16. Well I get all my older games from the internet...
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 02:39 PM by DarkTirade
but the ones that are still on shelves I feel a little iffy pirating, what with me being into game design myself. :P 'sides, out of the last four games I actually paid for two of 'em are really hard to pirate. Portal and Half-Life 2. Damn Steam. :(

*edit* I do need a new set of drives, ironically enough... my regular DVD drive is getting slow in its old age, and I'm running out of harddrive space.

17. I was considering being a baller and gtting a Blu-Ray burner for my computer.
Then I checked the prices. Ouch.

I need to get a new hard drive though. I'm thinking a terabyte with my next paycheque perhaps.

19. I'm cheap, I always go for the next-best thing with computer parts.
Although how far back on the 'best' list I'll go will depend on how big my next couple o' paychecks are. :P

Also, I'm saving up to get a portable computer of some kind so I don't wanna spend too much on this one. I'm thinking of getting a tablet PC both for the small size and portability and for the ability to draw on the screen.

20. I recentely bought a really good old game for $10...
the graphics aren't great but who cares...it's fun anyways. Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, if you care. $10 from Amazon for the "Game Of The Year" edition with both expansions. If you're into that sort of fantasy game, I highly recommend it.

21. Yeah, I don't know if that one woulda even run before I got my new card.

:P
*edit* Just checked the specs online... juuuust barely woulda run. My graphics card was their minimum requirement. Everything else was well over, 1 gig of RAM, 2.1 gHz processor, ect. But my video card was just the 32 meg chipset that came built into the motherboard.

The first one. Hmm... I should give that one a try now that I can crank the detail level up.

5. Well, maybe you can get away with that in Canada,
but in the US postal workers have a nasty habit of flipping out and killing lots of people. I think I'd let them keep my video card.

10. My PO is open on Saturday and delivers on that day too. I can also buy booze on Sundays.
Also, my postal carrier does not get just one day off since a sub delivers on Saturday. Not only do postal workers get 2 days off a week, they also are allowed to take vacations without being required to work.

18. yeah they all work 40 hours, and because the PO is open longer than 8 hours
a day 5 days a week and 4 to 6 hours on Saturdays, everybody's workload is scattered around the week to balance the hours. And they do have part time carriers as well.

Your package may have arrived in the major sorting center on Saturday and just didn't get out to your delivering branch in time to get in your carrier's bag. In a large city with several zip codes mail moves at least twice after it arrives in that city.

they all use UPS or DSL or whatever it is - and those assholes won't drive down our road, not that I can blame them - but I can always access my PO box.

If only I had ordered it a little sooner I might have gotten it Friday.

I am old enough I remember mail order, where you sent a hard copy and a check! and you didn't expect your stuff for 6 to 8 weeks.

I also walked 10 miles uphill in the snow both ways to school barefoot...:P
