It was great fun - good acting all around - Heath Ledger stole the show

But there's no way you can miss the Republican Terra Fear Machine working overtime in that movie.

1. ??
I thought that it was a pretty clear critique against the Republican Terra Fear Machine. The statement by Fox (Lucius Fox, that is--oh the irony) made it clear that even if (big if) such tactics are necessary, they are never acceptable. And the denouement after he typed in his name showed that Batman knew this as well.

2. But they DID use it
Illegal Wiretapping - it's OK in "special circumstances"

3. Sure, but... (spoilers, I guess)
A big difference IMO is that Batman used it reluctantly and while acknowledging it to be an abuse of power, so much so that he built the self-destruct system to be deployed immediately after use. He claimed justification for this one-time use, based on a single, known incident. The GOP, in stark contrast, claims justification for permanent blanket use based on the possibility of some unknown incident.

I don't think that it's GOP propaganda; I think that it's intended to engage the question and to offer a different response from the one we're fed IRL.

The more propagandistic framing would have been something along the lines of "it's the right thing to do, because we need it. And we'll keep it in case we need to use it again next time." FWIW, the recent Superman did much the same thing by hanging out in low orbit and listening to everything, not to mention super-spying on Lois, her hubbins, and her son.

4. *Nods*
I saw it last nite at the IMAX. :wow:

Orrex sums it up well for me.

Batman knew that using it was unacceptable and he knew that Lucius was right. LOL I love Lucius's smackdown in Hong Kong though. :D

5. That movie is too cerebral for it to be propaganda, for any side

6. Batman also trusted the people on the ferries to do the right thing.
Something the GOPpers would never do. Speak of the better angels of our nature and they merely sneer.
