I need advice from whiskey drinkers
I normally drink Scotch. Once in a while, I'll splurge and buy Johnny Walker Black. For everyday drinking, I buy Clan MacGregor in 1.75L bottles. If you've been to a liquor store recently, you know that our falling dollar is not doing wonderful things for the price of Scotch.

I'm not a big bourbon drinker. I'm thinking of switching to something like Canadian Club. Any other suggestions?

2. Don't laugh at this....I've recently grown fond of Jim Beam Rye
The bottle with the yellow label. I was over a friends house one night, and he had a bottle of it that he hadn't opened in over a year ( got it as a gift, I think ) My first time drinking it, and I found it INCREDIBLY smooth, and not too harsh....

my too cents...

14. I too am a convert...
my whole whiskey loving family switched to Tullamore Dew when we were in Ireland. I figured if the locals liked it better it was worth a try, and it was;)

13. Canadian Club is not "bourbon"

Canadian Club is cheap Canadian whiskey. Canadian whiskey tastes entirely different from bourbon. As such, it isn't horrible, but it ain't good either.

A popular mid-range bourbon is Jim Beam. Walker's Deluxe or Early Times aren't horrible. I'd go with the former before the latter. When you splurge, go with Maker's Mark or if wanting something truly fine, Blanton's.

18. Evan Williams is a bargain
I bought a bottle for $13.00 and was pleasantly surprised. It's very smooth and it has a nice oak taste.

19. Wild Turkey 101.
Expensive, but a little goes a long way. It is bonded, not blended as are the Canadians. If you have a tad too much you will wake the next day feeling thirsty - but probably not with a mega hangover that often occurs after consuming copious amounts of lesser quality spirits.

20. If you can find it, try a bottle of Eagle Rare burbon. And about Jonny Walker
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 06:39 AM by Political Heretic
Also Scotch..... give Glenlivet a try over Johnny Walker. Johnny Walker is interesting because despite its famous name and built up reputation, its not single barrel... so its just a hodge podge.

A Glenlivet bottle is single barrel and will set you back 20 bucks, and it is incredibly decent for the price. I'd never go lower than that price for scotch -- cheap scotch is nothing like good scotch and yes, it takes horrible. :(

Eagle Rare wouldn't be an all the time thing. It'll be about $35 for the bottle, but get it at least once - smoothest whiskey you'll ever taste. I love it. Also single barrel.

"Eagle 17 Year is also 90 proof and, of course, is also made by Old Prentice Distillery of Frankfort, Kentucky. It's darker than the copper 10 Year Old, almost red-brown. Straight up it is nearly overwhelming, but quite enjoyable, flushing the head with apple, nuts, chcolate, caramel, barrel...Wow (Rating ****1/2)"
