Does it make you drowsy?

2. Doc replaced Vicodan with Lyrica...
And he said it would take a week or two to kick in. Yes, it is for a spinal problem. It is non-narcotic, which is good...I just hope this stuff starts working soon. It makes me very drowsy, but it has not touched the pain yet.

Thanks for your input, UndertheOcean.

4. Well, the Vicodin certainly makes you feel good...
But what I found was this...

I had to take more than the prescribed dose. This would cause me to catch a buzz and give me a feeling of well-being, but it did not really take the pain away.

I'd rather have something that works on the pain only, and does not have the risk of addiction.

New doc told me that Vicodin "works like shit" for problems like this.

I need something that I can live a normal life on. I don't want to be high all the time LOL.

5. Hmm...
I love my vicodin. My problem is I function quite WELL on it, especially when combined with flexeril. Guess I've been on 'em so long, that's how I ended up this way.

So has this new doc given you an official diagnosis you agree with? I haven't talked to you other than a quick few nonsense posts lately. :hi:

6. Good morning vard28...
Osteophytes in 4 consecutive cervical disks (hope I spelled that correctly).

2 of the osteophytes are severe and compressing the nerve.

He said I need surgery, but he will not consider it until I quit smoking for 6 months due to healing concerns. I am diabetic, so he will not even consider using a cadaver bone or plastic disk replacements, so he has to take bone from my hip.

In the meantime, he is going with Lyrica and physical therapy.

I hope you are doing well.

:hi:

7. I quit
smoking and that was one of the BEST things I did for my spine, neck, bones. It's not easy, but it is really worth it and I DO feel better! I got to use bone grafts from my hips for both fusions I had. Just be warned, I'm now labeled a true Butt Head. Get it? Bone from my hips, now up in my neck, near my head? My stupid-ass younger brother came up with that one. Makes me extra glad I have a younger sister too!

How big are the spurs? Have you seen 'em on the films? My nastiest one looked like a parrot beak, almost a half inch long!

8. Check out the newest member of our family!
We lost our 11 year old Lab, Allie, a few months ago. Vard jr. was heart sick.

We rescued Tilly from the humane society this weekend. She's almost 3, a Lab/German short-hair pointer mix. The SWEETEST pup ever and a perfect fit for our family!

17. Yeah, it didn't help my pain.
I felt I had to quit taking Lyrica or quit riding the motorcycles.

9. One of my housemates
is on Lyrica for spinal stenosis. I think it took about 2 weeks to fully kick in. She has not gained any weight from it, and has not complained about any drowsiness.

It worked perfectly at first, but she may need to adjust her dosage after about 4 months on it.

Also, you need to be militant about taking it on time. The pain comes roaring in fairly intensely otherwise.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

15. I just started taking it a bit over a week ago ...
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 01:00 PM by Akoto
Taking it for non-fibro nerve pain. I started at 75mg in the morning for 7 days, and then moved to 75mg twice a day.

So far, I have noticed no bad effects. Unfortunately, no good ones, either. I think it has been about nine days.

20. Thank you Akoto. My schedule is...
75 mg at supper, and 75 mg before bed.

My doc said it would take about 2 weeks, so don't get discouraged.

16. I take took (75mg) along with Cymbalta (60mg) for Fibro
I slept for three months - gained weight. It worked at first and then effect tapered off. I now take it PRN,(puts me to sleep) increased Cymbalta along with valium and klonopin. I was a zombie. I would rather get off everything except the klonopin and get on vicodin, and manage my issues with as few drugs as possible.

I have agoraphobia, prone to panic attacks, insomnia, Mineers Disease, Fibro, hypo-thyroid, high blood pressure and PTSD. All this happened in the last eight years, and I have no idea how this could happen to my health.

18. Jeez, I'm so sorry...
You have a lot to deal with.

Your story is somewhat similar to mine...developed major depression 8 years ago, and then a host of physical problems. Was healthy as a horse before that.

Hopefully, it will help you to know that there are others that are struggling. I tend to forget that sometimes.

Continue to fight the good fight. Best wishes to you.
