1. Don't forget the Manischewitz.

I know you like Manischewitz. B-)

Or bottled water; whichever you prefer...

What's the story behind apples and honey for Rosh Hashana?

7. The story is basically a superstition about eating
sweet foods on the new year. "May your new year be sweet." Apples and honey were the sweetest things in ancient Israel.

12. Holidays should be fun.
Yeah, there's the element of stern reminder and spiritual contemplation. But holidays really need to be about fun and celebration. We can do doom-and-gloom anytime.

17. I don't think I've ever had that variety before.
As a Washingtonian, I should be all about the apples, of every kind. But I tend to stick with red delicious, golden delicious and a few others. I'll have to see if the produce section has some Jonathans...

18. Looks like more of an East Coast Apple:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_(apple)

That talks about it being developed in New York. This apple probably came from Northern Maryland or Southern Pennsylvania.

imported in from New Zealand, of all places.

21. New Zealand has great apples. Braeburn?
That's the kind of New Zealand apples we get at the supermarket. I got these Jonathan apples at a local fruit stand.

11. I love honey
It's one of the many things Winnie the Pooh and I have in common. Actually, the only thing... but I digress. I had some applesauce and honey by myself tonight and I suspect there will be plenty at the dinner I'm going to attend tomorrow. But for now, some virtual apples and honey would be great.

I, for one, welcome 5769 with open arms. '68 wasn't so great for me. Of course, next year the 60's will be over and we'll be into the 70's. You don't suppose there's some zombie Jewish Nixon out there, do you? :scared:

14. Richard Nixon was a Quaker, not a Jew, so don't worry about it.
Take an apple from the OP and dip it in the honey pot I provided there.

Happy 5769!
