Best use of banjo in a popular music song?
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 01:16 PM by PeterU
(I got this post idea from the "Banjo Lesson" thread.)

I know for some, banjos conjure up visions of hillbilly kids in Deliverance, but I for one like them--there's something simple and relaxing about them.

What I like best is when a popular music song uses banjos--it's an unexpected surprise. Just wondering if anyone has any favorite songs which incorporate the use of a banjo.

As a fan of Tori Amos, I always liked the use of banjo in "Virginia":

1. Well, I know Moxie Fruvous' "Michigan Militia" has one
because the first time I heard it was on a "Banjo Hour" on WXPN (public radio station). And I do love that song.

14. I'm going to get a brick thrown at me...
"Come on Eileen" by Dexies Midnight Runners has a quite an intricate banjo part to it.

I think the best use of banjo in the modern era would have to be The Pogues... Just my two cents.

17. not by me
Dexy's were a very under-rated band.

I like the banjo in "All My Little Words" by Magnetic Fields, and Beck's "Sex Laws"
