How long should I keep college notes and such....
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 07:29 AM by amyrose2712
I was perusing my BS in Environmental Sci. I have not yet graduated, unfortunately I had to drop out in my 3rd year. It has been a few years, but I do intend to go back. Any suggestions on what I should keep? i.e. note, labs books, text books

1. I'd keep just about everything...
especially since you plan on going back. All of those things may be useful resources to you in the future. I still have textbooks from 30 years ago, and believe it or not, I occasionally still reference them. :hi:

7. You do know that credits start to expire after a few years right?
I think for Indiana University it was 5 years. I would check on that if I were you. You don't lock credits in until you get a degree.

3. Notes, not so much
Research papers, essays, assignment compilations, lab books...those are worth keeping while still going after a higher degree. Notes are usually in line with textbooks, so keep those that are relevant to your specific field.

The only things I have ever used after college were those text books that had specific information necessary for my field, as well as the internship notebooks and work, and the latter only for a while once I started working as the internship items were useful as an idea springboard in the begginning.

4. I still have my notes from
an American History class I took in 1976. Mostly because I learned so much I want to keep them around for reference........

6. Keep it all. You won't regret it. That stuff can be useful for many reasons.
GREs, winning "arguments" about the topics you studied with others who shared your major(s), etc.

8. I usually get rid of notes
right after the semester is over, but I do save all the papers/tests I took for the class.

9. Keep it all until you have to throw it out.

Some of those things come in handy, especially any notes you too or any labs you have already done.

Plus, unless you just absolutely need the room, text books look great on living room shelves and the notes are fun to look at later too. I still have drawings I did of the class idiot with dates and everything, although I don't remember any mirrors in any of my classrooms. I must have drawn them from memory. :P

10. I never keep (and rarely actually take) class notes, but text books and stuff are invaluable.
I keep most of my text books.
