I just talked to my baby brother!
It may not seem like a big deal, but he just had had surgery for oral cancer last friday, and they took a big chunk of his tongue out, plus all the lymph glands on the right side of his neck.

He spoke very slowly and deliberately, but every word was crystal clear.

And I am so grateful.

The pathology on the glands was negative, so no radiation treatments!

1. So happy for you and your little brother Xipe Totec

My uncle had tongue and throat cancer. Treatment is really a beast, but he lived a very long time after. :-)

2. Thanks!
I think he caught it just in time.

Cancer is the bane of my family.

I'm hoping to have him around for a very long time.

4. It was a shock!
We had been warned he might have to go through 6 months of speech therapy.

I fully expected to be text messaging for a few months.

This is a major lucky break.

7. This, I think is the last time we all posed together for a picture
At my wedding in 1982.

The two on the extreme left and right are gone now.

I'm second from the right, and my youngest brother is third from the right.

It is, as if death has ravaged our flanks and attempted a frontal assault.

8. Uh, yes it DOES seem like a big deal, given the circumstances. You have every reason to
be happy. Pass along my best wishes to your brother for a continued good arc of recovery, even though he doesn't know me, OK? That's got to be a frightening process to go through.

15. I've been trying to sit with my favorite cousin.
She's the only "sister" I ever had and is dealing with colon cancer right now.

If I were cancer, I wouldn't want to tangle with her. lol

We hang in. :)

16. Wonderful!
That is no small victory. I wish him a speedy recovery and continued good health.

He would seem still quite young according to the picture. Is he even 40 yet?
