What would you say to someone who said this to you?

I really want to know. Context: Not being an intolerant bigot to people who's beliefs or ideas you disagree with. That is not to say that you are tolerant and don't state what you believe and call them on what you think to be their shit. I'm talking low down want them to die or be eradicated intolerance.

5. Those kind of people make me think

"Live and let die." I know some people hate me to the point that they'd dance on my grave. I did some "debating" with conservatives in the month before the election and a lot of them basically think I'm a commie traitor. For real. And there is nothing you can say to them or show them that will make them think any different no matter how compelling the evidence.

I'm also a trucker. People have tried to kill me before out here on the road. It seems that way anyway. What they don't understand is that most truckers walk away from even the most horrendous of accidents. Most four-wheelers don't. Most people are okay with truckers, but the ones that hate us REALLY hate us. For example, I was driving down the interstate one night doing about 60 mph. I was out in the left lane passing another truck and coming up on an overpass. Suddenly, I hear this loud bang on the top of my truck. It scared the shit out of me and I pulled over onto the shoulder of the road to get out and inspect the truck. There was an air foil that was fiberglass on the roof of the truck. Someone had thrown a large rock off of the top of the overpass. It went through the air foil and slammed into the roof of the cab making it concave. I have no doubt that whoever threw that rock was aiming for my windshield.

But, yeah, live and let die? Well, I'm not really that cold. And maybe I'm a fool, but I'd never watch something bad happen to anyone if I could do something about it. Wouldn't matter much who they were.

People can be fucked up.

I think what it boils down to is I am more about working FOR what I believe in, rather than working AGAINST something else. That doesn't mean I wont, it just means that I think being reactionary and awful to people is an uphill battle. I think educating people and pushing ourselves for what we want is a better way to go. Maybe it's slower, it's harder, maybe it's even wishywashy, but I think the end result is a stronger, more solid foundation for my goals than anything achieved through nastiness, division and hate.

14. That's the way to do it

You probably didn't see too much of the campaign commercials for our election up there in Canada. I've talked to people here (friends, family, co-workers) who paid attention to the election but who really aren't political people. They don't affiliate with any one party and have at times voted for Republicans. I hear the same thing from all of them: Obama just ran a much more positive campaign. McCain's tactics and commercials tended to be on the negative side and that really turned them off to him. They liked Obama's positive, upbeat message.

I have met people who would be perfectly happy to see me dead, even though I had nothing against them.

I have no doubt there are people I don't know who if I knew them would want me dead.

It's a very mean world out there with some very mean people in it. Just because I wish no one any harm doesn't mean it will be reciprocated.

Anyway, I just keep on doing what I'm doing and don't really see that kind of thing as any more threatening than any other horrific possibility for my demise.

(Now, if someone actually and credibly threatened my life, that would be very different from some vague, existential death wish, but it only happened once that I remember, and it was a very long time ago)
