Loungers, please say hello to Harry
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 07:40 AM by mikeytherat
(aka Weird Harold or "happydude")

We got him Friday from the Richmond SPCA. We had actually gone in to look at two other cats, but Harry ran right up to us and said, "Me! Take me! You want ME to go home with you!", and so he did.

He is a real sweetheart, and the other two (Hannah and Charlie) are taking to him as well (all three cats slept together on the bed the very first night - fastest integration ever)!

And, yes, we expect lots of coos and squeals over his tummy markings!

4. All of the ferrets are gone now.
We lost the last one, Bandit, about a year ago. Since then, we have concentrated on cats!

8. After Bandit passed, we decided to concentrate on saving cats.
Seriously. We had done 15+ years of ferret rescue, and the emotional (and financial) toll was considerable. We had over 35 ferrets (15 was the most at any one time), and we were doing personal rescue - keeping all of the strays who came our way and taking care of them until the end. Many of the ferrets brought to us were elderly and in need of various surgeries - adrenal and pancreatic tumors are very common in ferrets, and the surgeries aren't cheap (thank goodness my best friends are vets, and I assisted with most of the surgeries).

After we lost our cat, Tate, suddenly a few weeks ago, we knew we wanted to get another cat (male) to play with Charlie and to keep the three-cat dynamic, which works very well at Chez Rat. In fact, the boys are tearing through the house as we type!

How old is this guy? You may end up with a moose in your house!

22. The paperwork states he is approx. one year old, but I think he closer to six months.
He's smaller than he appears in the photos, but he does have moose-feet!

24. Well if he was nutritionally deprived early on he may be a bit late with his growth.
Not everyone will agree with me on this one, but I think you may end up with a fairly big kitty. Now that he is in a place with regular food and a stable environment he may start to "bloom" pretty quickly.

Did they suggest kitten chow quality food for him for a bit? It might be worth looking at for a couple of months anyway (even IF he really is a year old) just to build him up a bit, but if he's delayed on his growth it might help keep him a bit healthier in the long run. You can talk to your vet about it--the vet may think I am nuts for suggesting it--but I honestly do not think that kitty is fully grown yet.

Enjoy your new kitty! Life is EVER so much better in a house with a few around.

25. I'm sure he's not mature - he still has that gangly, "limby" look that all our kittens did.
You know, the "all his parts don't seem related" (head too small, ears too big, legs too long) look.
