Damn that Brat Pack!!!!
St. Elmo's Fire...

I watched the movie for the first time in about fifteen years last night, and though it's full of "Trendy, Youthful and Marketable Angst & Despair", it still sucked me right in-- which incidentally, was the very same reaction I had to it when it originally came out.

What the heck? It's NOT a great movie. It's not even a good movie, but there I was-- riding the couch, sipping a beer and completely engrossed in it (the movie, not the beer). Laughing at all the right places ("It's not a party til something gets broken", "Fluff and fold, buddy. Soon as I make it really big, I'm going fluff and fold.")

I get the same reaction when many of the B-Level Teen 80's movies hit the Saturday afternoon TV line-up. 'Gotcha!' Remember that one with the American actor Anthony Edwards? Caught the opening of it a few weeks ago, and the same thing happened-- I got entranced by a a wholly forgettable movie, hanging on the edge of my seat, with a silly grin on my face.

"About Last Night" and "No Small Affair" do the exact same thing. Maybe they just return me to those carefree, easy-going, no-worries teen-years.

Now for the hangover-- I've been listening to Man in Motion over and over (and over and over) all morning long. I think I'll have to schedule an appointment with my imaginary therapist this evening...
