Poll question: Favorite Stevie Wonder tune
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 08:22 PM by undisclosedlocation
Finally figured out how to make sure Stevie won a poll. I must be some kind of genius or something :)

Edit: Sorry 'bout that. I'm having mouse problems. Take 2! (Adding options 8-10)

Worst. Stevie. EVER. It was bad enough, but he added a "cha cha cha" ending that made me want to heave.

Except for the lame history lesson at the end. The song itself is just about the funkiest thing he ever did, AND it's enough of a history lesson without the backup singers at the end.

Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 09:33 PM by papau
Fingertips and the harmonica - my memory fades - it was Fingertips that had the harmonica wasn't it? was also great (at age 11 or 12?)

I could swear he had a hit before that but my memory is shot.

In any case he was a bundle of energy that you had to admire.

23. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered...I'm Yours!"
That's one of my favorites but there is another one that I really like but don't know the name. He says stuff like..."blah blah getting ready to pop" and "things are getting real funky". My niece and other kids did a dance recital on that song and I have been trying to find it for the longest. I bought two freaking CD's totalling over $60 with his greatest hits and that damn song is not on there!

I googled those few words too, plus I included Stevie Wonder's name and that song did come up. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.

Now I know what to look for when I'm out shopping for CD's.

29. You Haven't Done Nothing
Always loved that song....especially so in an election year.

You Haven't Done Nothing Lyrics
by Stevie Wonder

We are amazed but not amused
By all the things you say that you'll do
Though much concerned but not involved
With decisions that are made by you

But we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!

It's not too cool to be ridiculed
But you brought this upon yourself
The world is tired of pacifiers
We want the truth and nothing else

And we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!

Jackson 5 join along with me say
Doo doo wop - hey hey hey
Doo doo wop - wow wow wow
Doo doo wop - co co co
Doo doo wop - naw naw naw
Doo doo wop - bum bum bum
Doo doo wop

We would not care to wake up to the nightmare
That's becoming real life
But when mislead who knows a person's mind
Can turn as cold as ice un hum

Why do you keep on making us hear your song
Telling us how you are changing right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!
Yeah

Jackson 5 sing along again say
Doo doo wop
Doo doo wop - oh
Doo doo wop - co co co
Doo doo wop - sing it baby
Doo doo wop - bum bum bum
Doo doo wop - um
Sing it loud for your people say
Doo doo wop - um um um

Doo doo wop - stand up be counted, say
Doo doo wop - co co co
Doo doo wop - ow
Doo doo wop - bum bum bum
Doo doo wop - ah hum

32. HIGHER GROUND

People keep on learnin’
Soldiers keep on warrin’
World keep on turnin’
Cause it won’t be too long

Powers keep on lyin’
While your people keep on dyin’
World keep on turnin’
Cause it won’t be too long

I’m so darn glad he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I’m so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin’
Till I reach the highest ground

Teachers keep on teachin’
Preachers keep on preachin’
World keep on turnin’
Cause it won’t be too long
Oh no

Lovers keep on lovin’
Believers keep on believin’
Sleepers just stop sleepin’
Cause it won’t be too long
Oh no

I’m so glad that he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I’m so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin’
Till I reach my highest ground...whew!
Till I reach my highest ground
No one’s gonna bring me down
Oh no
Till I reach my highest ground
Don’t you let nobody bring you down (they’ll sho ’nuff try)
God is gonna show you higher ground
He’s the only friend you have around

34. Recalling the first album
I must have been five or six years old when Stevie Wonder debuted. My uncle had bought the album. At the time he was known as "Little Stevie Wonder" and he was about 12 years old on this first recording. We spent the summer dancing and singing to his album. Superstition's lyrics and music is one of my favorites but there was not a tune he wrote/sang that I didn't like. It's been fun watching him grow up to the superstar he's become.

47. He's Misstra Know-It-All
Good election year song.

He's a man
With a plan
Got a counterfeit dollar in his hand
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Playin' hard
Talkin' fast
Makin' sure that he won't be the last
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Makes a deal
With a smile
Knowin' all the time that his lie's a mile
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Must be seen
There's no doubt
He's the coolest one with the biggest mouth
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If you tell him he's livin' fast
He will say what do you know
If you had my kind of cash
You'd have more than one place to go oh

Any place
He will play
His only concern is how much you'll pay
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If he shakes
On a bet
He's the kind of dude that won't pay his debt
He's Misstra Know-It-All

When you say that he's livin wrong
He'll tell you he knows he's livin' right
And you'd be a stronger man
If you took Misstra Know-lt-All's advice oh oh

He's the man
With a plan
Got a counterfeit dollar in his hand
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Take my word
Please beware
Of a man that just don't give a care
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If we had less of him
Don't you know we'd have a better land
He's Misstra Know-It-All

(props to "You Haven't Done Nothing" and "I Believe When I Fall In Love")

Love's in need of love today
Don't delay
Send yours in right away
Hate's goin' round
Breaking many hearts
Stop it please
Before it's gone too far

The force of evil plans
To make you its possession
And it will if we let it
Destroy ev-er-y-body
We all must take
Precautionary measures
If love and peace you treasure
Then you'll hear me when I say

Oh that
Love's in need of love today
love's in need of love today
Don't delay
don't delay
Send yours in right away
right a-way
Hate's goin' round
