Shows that have gone on WAY TOO LONG
I nominate the X-Files. How did they think they could have a show without Mulder? And the crushing non-resolution of the arc episodes? Bees, clones, implants, Samantha... WTF?

13. Yeah, I loved the first 8 or so seasons, and still watch them regularly
But it's kinda sad that the show has been bad longer than it was good at this point.

Too bad Fox fucked around with Futurama so much. It really seemed like a lot of the creative energy from that crew moved there.

36. Yes I do.
It's not near the level it was in the early to mid-90s, but it's better than it was from 1999-2004.

Even with the downturn, it's still one of the best shows on television and trumps anything that airs on Sunday night.

The Simpsons 20.8: “The Burns and the Bees”

December 8th, 2008 by Erich Asperschlager | Fox, Reviews

This week’s Simpsons episode is brought to you by the letter B—as in “B” is for Billionaires, Burns, Basketball, Bees, and Bezos (amazon.com-founding special guest Jeff, that is).

“The Burns and the Bees” features the long-awaited rematch between Lisa and Mr. Burns, who last tangled in the eighth season episode “The Old Man and the Lisa.” I doubt there are two more opposite characters on The Simpsons. She’s young. He’s old. She has a family. He lives alone. She has her cat. He has his hounds. She cares about the environment. He cares about… nothing. They’re the perfect match. So why didn’t this episode work?

Part of me knows that the only way to enjoy the modern incarnation of The Simpsons is to stop expecting its stories to make sense. In “The Old Man and the Lisa,” Burns lost his money and Lisa helped him earn it back. Pretty straightforward. In “The Burns and the Bees,” Lisa finds out the world’s bee population is dying out and tries to give Springfield’s last colony a fighting chance for survival, while Burns goes to a Billionaire’s Retreat and wins a professional basketball in a poker game. Their stories intersect when Burns decides to bulldoze the bees’ habitat to build a new stadium for his team. Once the bee v. b-ball match-up happens, the story gels just long enough for Homer to come up with a wacky scheme that ends in such town-shattering devastation it’s guaranteed nothing that happened this week will ever be mentioned again. Not straightforward at all. It’s like sometime after the tenth season, The Simpsons writers started using Mad Libs to generate story ideas. In fact, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion the only reason this episode exists is because someone came up with the title “The Burns and the Bees” and just had to make it work.

18. Survivor's best season was the first--
all others were crap! And American Idol is so bad I can just about predict the winner from the early shows--you know, the ones with the crazy people trying out. When I picked it was either Reuben or Clay the one season, and had Taylor Hicks down the next one, I just gave up. I understood the pattern, and never needed to watch again. And Last Comic Standing is great--to see if I've already caught the act of one or two of the people participating already. Which I probaby have. Since comedy is a big subjective field with populated with go-getters. And also to see if it actually leads to someone being crowned or whatever, since it really hasn't ever broken anybody out. In any meaningful way. Just saying.

Oh, and I wonder if a reunion of "The Biggest Loser" would be the "biggest disappointment" in seeing how many people are really fat again. That might actually make a better show.

And any cable show about rich people or celebrity rehab is de facto, meaningless, bitchy, and wrong.

They should have ended the series right after Dan's heart attack. Actually, that being the final episode (when he has it) would've been great.

Then they pushed it another season where they win the lottery and it became really, really stupid.

I'm getting sick of the Vegas CSI as well; I watch it for the forensic angle, not for the Gil-Sarah crap. Laurence Fishburne has one three strikes with me, and if he's as bad as he was in the Matrix movies he'll probably get through them in three episodes.

34. I honestly don't understand how this is the most popular show in the entire world.
Obviously, it would be 10 times better without David Caruso, and the one woman's southern accent irritates me. It's pretty to look at, I guess (I've always likes the color palette of the show...each CSI franchise seems to have a different one), but otherwise...

I've been meaning to catch up on this season of CSI. Right now, I'm all about CSI:NY (although this whole pregnancy subplot may get a bit annoying).

However, the pregnancy subplot which you fear MAY get a bit annoying has already become annoying to me. Danny's proposal has already crossed the line for me, and that stupid exchange between Lindsay and Stella made my eyes roll so hard that they started to hurt.

I honestly think the best thing for the show is to kill off Lindsay now, and have Danny quit the lab out of grief. I see no other way to keep this show tolerable to me. This personal crap has already turned me off of the original and made me quit Miami once Horatio's wife / Delko's sister got killed and he went to Brazil with Delko to kill the killer.

Please, let a stray bullet find Lindsay or let a car bomb take out her and Danny in one fell swoop. I don't enjoy having such morbid wishes for a show, but I dislike these personal subplots even more.

Even one episode was too long for that odious man's self-obsessed ego-stroke vehicle.
