I just snuggled a puppy. Are you jealous?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 03:40 PM by dawgmom
We just had a puppy visit the office. One of the guys just picked up his rescue Pomeranian puppy from the vet, where it had the old clip job done. It was still pretty doped up from the procedure, but amazingly friendly. I got to hold it and put my face on it's beautiful soft fur, and now my hands smell all like puppy. It's lovely.

Now I want a puppy. Stop me. I already have two dogs.

(BTW, it was rescued from a small Amish puppy mill operation in Ohio, which took their puppies to a Christmas fair to sell. All the puppies that didn't sell were going to be killed, so an alert rescue person swooped in and took all the remaining dogs.)

Oh, and it looked almost exactly like this:

1. Yes, I'm jealous!
Thank goodness for animal rescue people! Ohhhh, what an adorable, adorable puppy!

My husband and I have always had at least one dog, and each one of them (may they RIP  ) lived to be almost 16 years old. When our beloved bichon died 4 years ago, we decided to never have another pet, because we grieve endlessly when they die.

But a few days ago, a little mongrel dog followed us home from town. He was frightened, cold and hungry, so we took him in, fed him, and tried to find his owners. An announcer at one of the radio stations we called to have them announce our finding the dog, suggested that we call animal control and have a policeman pick up the dog, because the owners would surely know to look for him in the city pound.

So we did...but immediately regretted it, and called the animal control officer, as well as the pound, and said that if the owner didn't claim him by the time the deadline arrived for him/her to do so, we would like to adopt him. If someone doesn't, he'll be euthanized (here, in this town, he'll probably be shot).

We have been waiting all day for the animal control officer to return our call, to tell us whether the owner has claimed him, and if s/he hasn't, to tell us when the deadline is for the owner to claim the dog before we can adopt him. We are on pins and needles. Until we held and cuddled the little dog, we hadn't realized how much we'd missed these past 4 years by not having a furry friend in our lives.

3. I hope that it turns out well
If there is someone out there grieving and missing their dog, then I have to confess, I hope that they claim him. However, if that doesn't happen, I do hope that you are able to give him a home. It was very kind of you to take him in, even temporarily.

It's so hard to lose an animal companion. I understand why you've been hesitant to open your heart again. However, there are so many animals in need of homes -- and it sounds as though they would be lucky to call your house home.

I hope it works out.

13. Thank you!
We too had hoped the owner - if the owner was kind and loving to the little pooch - would find him and joyfully claim him, but if s/he hasn't within less than an hour from now, he'll be ours. We've loved all our pets dearly, and if he becomes ours, we'll give him a good, loving home.

We've decided that if the dog has been claimed by his owner, we'll adopt a different one. Our hearts are open again, and as you said, there are many animals who need homes.

12. Today's the day!
Today's the day we can spring the dog from the pound if the owner hasn't claimed him. As of last night s/he hadn't, so in an hour - actually 47 minutes from now - he'll be ours if the owner hasn't come for him. :-)

8. Go down there right now
get in their face about it. I'm not kidding. My dog disappeared last year & I called the pound every day asking if they'd found her. No no no no & no. So I went down there & looked myself, & there she was & from the records I got, had been there from the day she went missing from my yard. :grr:

Good luck!! Go claim your puppy!

11. I'm glad you got your dog back!
I'd be furious too!

Thanks for the advice about getting in their face about our dog situation. My husband and I went right down to the police station, and they contacted the animal control officer, and she met with us right away. She said that by law, they have to keep the dog impounded for 5 working days, but she promised that if the owner doesn't claim him by today, we can adopt him. So, we are heading to the pound shortly to get him, unless the owner already has.

Thanks again!

4. Did it have "Puppy Breath?"
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 08:56 PM by Jamastiene
My ex-boss, the dog groomer, used to looove puppy breath. I washed the pigs, cats, hamsters, and ferrets though and trimmed their nails. I was the only one who'd wash those. Everybody else freaked and said no way.

Note: Ferrets can really wiggle and move. Pigs bite. Cats do not like water on their person. Hamsters bite too.

7. It didn't have puppy breath
I think puppy breath, or what I think of when I hear puppy breath, is when they're still at the nursing stage.

Nonetheless, he was absolutely lovely. *sigh*

(Oh, and as an old farm girl, I can verify what you said about pigs. They DO bite.)
