1. I bet the retailers are sick

First, the Christmas shopping season is abbreviated by a shorter Thanksgiving-Christmas period than normal.

Now ice over the Midwest and upper East Coast for the last weekend before Christmas. I was walking around Bryant Park in NY today, and the stall-holders did not look happy - they were trying to squeeze in as many sales as possible during one nice day between bouts of snow and ice.

2. Stores are very crowded today, prediction for Friday is

at least 1"to3" of snow with freezing rain on top of it, a real driving hazard. More of the same Sunday, more next week. Rettailers are doing well today, but I wouldn't count on too much over the next week.

The only store I was in today that was complaining about lack of stock was a local gun shop- He ordered 10 of a brand of shotgun, got 1 delivered, and sold it before he got it completely out of the box.

He said he is glad he is not in the car business.
