3. Only Two:

Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING
And John Carpenter's remake of THE THING

I would add Ken Russel's ALTERED STATES, but it is more sci-fi than horror. But if it qualifies by your definition, please add it.

4. Those are good ones...
I get a little pissed about the way Altered States progressed. I suppose you can argue the book was basically the same but, the movie put that extra "wink" in there with the ravenous monkey man deal. And the ending, of course:)

I really enjoyed most of it. The subtle undertones in an otherwise good flick is maddening? :)

I've noticed Hollywood do that quite a bit.

All other "horror" films pale by comparison.

12. Great. Now I crave a Filet O' Fish.
"Despite being labeled one of the worst movies ever by both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes (where it holds a 0% rating), Mac and Me has gained a cult following, due in large part to its unintentionally humorous awful production values." -Wikipedia

13. "Fright Night" & "Night of the Creeps" & "Day of the Dead"
"Fright Night" was a good little traditional horror movie, and one that I have watched since with my kid.

IIRC, "Night of the Creeps" was about alien slug things, and was also a lot of fun. I enjoyed it immensely in junior high.

"Day of the Dead" is highly underrated.
