Anyone else suffer from a gag reflex?
Sometimes, when I brush my teeth in the morning I practically puke it's so bad. Is there anything I can do about it?

1. No, I got over that a long time ago. I'll spare you the details.

3. Big time gag reflex here..
Luckily I have good teeth because my gag reflex keeps me from going to the dentist nearly as much as I should.

4. Yep, but I don't think you can get over it.
Didn't know I had it until I had molds of my teeth taken for braces. Just the thought of sitting there with goop stuck to my teeth for 1 minute as I gagged on the stuff draining down my throat still gets me going.

Since then, I just avoid doing the things that cause the reflex, including being careful when brushing my teeth. It's a bitch. One thing I noticed is that as long as I can move my tongue, it doesn't happen. Try posting the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth or curling it backward when you brush your teeth. Sounds silly but it's that or dentures for me.

5. I've had the same problem
Going to the dentist is a nightmare. Usually after 10 tries to get back to my back teeth, the dentist feels sorry for me and gives up.:(

I'm not sure if there's anything you can do. I know they tell you to try to breathe through your nose but that doesn't help too much. They told me mine would go away as I got older and it hasn't happened too much.

Embrace the gag reflex. It's healthy. You'd be a lot less likely to choke on something than most people!

6. I think I have a solution.
I often start to gag when I take pills. I find that if I press my fingers into the upper part of my diaphram...the soft spot just below the middle breast bone...I can stop the reaction. Just put your fingers in the middle of your chest just below the breats bone and see if that helps.

8. For Dental X-Rays
I have a MAJOR problem with keeping that little film holder thing in my teeth. The moment it goes in, i reject it. They have to use a topical antisthetic on the roof of the mouth to prevent it. Just to have my teeth Xrayed.

So, yeah, big time.

9. gag reflex
This is my first post ever. So, here goes. Try tipping your
head forward over the sink as you brush your teeth! It will
be messy, but you may keep yourself from gagging!
