We're back home after a most spectacular fail
So we're heading out to Greenfield this morning not too long after the storm started. It's not too bad and besides, we're New Englanders so we make our way onto the highway. I was creeping along 95 at about 30 mph and I can still sorta see. Once we approach the ramp for 95S/N split we're going about 20 and my visibility is starting to diminish rapidly due to white out and my failing wiper blades. No problem, I can still do this as long as I have that tiny window just above the dash and can see tire tracks.

After about 30 minutes and oh about 5 miles I have to get out of my lane because my tiny window is almost gone and I can't see tracks anymore. So I get over to the right lane to follow the very slow line of cars. Just after we got over an epic fail happened. A truck driving too fast for the weather spun out, went into the median, back on the highway, spun across three lanes, then spun back into oncoming traffic until he finally stopped perpendicular to the road. We would have been creamed if I had stayed in that lane based on the path his fail took.

We got off the next exit in Needham to turn around and 1.5 hours+ later we're back.

:scared:

And some fucking maniacs we're flying down unplowed breakdown lanes and on the wrong side of the road to avoid crawling along. :eyes:

4. We left shortly before 11 from Quincy
And we may have made it to Framingham by now but most likely not.

I was just hoping to make it to the Framingham rest stop on the pike so I could de-ice the blades. And then to the Westborough stop and so forth.

5. I don't know what we were thinking
But it wasn't that bad when we left. WBZ is reporting accidents all over the state including a 10 car pile-up on the Pike West at 495.

7. I'm still shook up!
I almost started crying when the truck spun out. I was having a continuous panic attack basically from the moment we got on 93. it was unreal.

:scared:

20. We watched a SUV with Florida plates pass us going about 70
and skid sideways til he gained control. Then the bastard floored it again. I'll bet they either dead or in the hospital now. Fucking ski junkies.

10. You need something to counteract the adrenaline.
Although alcohol will work, you got any chamomile or valerian tea? Or any non-caffeine teas?

Glad you're okay. You're intuition was working for you

I never see an additional amount of police out when it rains a lot here, but I would think where it snows, they would be out. Seems like they could make a lot of money in tickets and keep the roads much safer...

12. shee-it
I drove about 4 miles and was glad to get home. For the first time ever I left the car running to pick up some beer, just so the A/C defrost could catch up.

Only a raving lunatic would be out looking for cars to steal anyway, and he'd have to be so raving loony he'd be naked and frozen in place anyway. And yes, I had to stop about a 3/4 of a mile from home to unfuck my wipers as they were leaving huge streaks of ice.

It's light but nasty snow for driving.

16. Eh, the whole point was to get there in time to get to my parents' bank
so I could withdraw and deposit money for my parents. So instead, I'll go out tomorrow, play Wii until my arms fall off, and then go first thing Friday morning.

:)
