I have a job interview tomorrow morning!
:bounce:

I've been applying for jobs left and right for almost a year now, have only gotten two other interviews. I was really qualified for both jobs, but didn't want to do that work any more and was relieved when neither offered me a position. But tomorrow I interview to work in a library, something I've wanted to do since I was a little girl but got sidetracked from in my 30's as I was considering grad school. So I'm VERY excited about the interview tomorrow.

Good thoughts, prayers, and vibes are greatly appreciated to boost my chances! :hi:

1. ooh, good luck. I was in a library today and thinking how much I'd love to work in one.
I applied to the same library a few years back but didn't get the job - very sad.

Best of luck!

4. I've been applying
to one or two library jobs a week for about two months now, at two different municipal libraries (one city and one neighboring county). I finally called one place to ask if I had to keep submitting the same materials over and over or if I could just call and let them know I was interested in new openings. The guy pulled up my file while I was on the phone and asked me a couple questions, then said he was scheduling interviews for Monday. :D

It probably doesn't hurt that I've been volunteering at a local branch for a few months, either. So you might try that to get a foot in, if you can spare 3-4 hours a week.

6. this was a university library
While in theory they were willing to take non-MLS-degreed people, and my grad work lines up with the subject areas of the specific library, they got so many MLS applicants they had their pick of those.

And then there was the interview committee member who is married to someone who I used to work with who made my life hell at that job, so maybe that was it ;)

31. Au contraire -- they prefer non professionals for non professional jobs
At least that was the case at the three university libraries I've worked at, one being in the top five of ARL.

10. Thanks!
I'm lucky that I tend to interview well. I have heard that this particular library is in a heavily Russian immigrant area and there are tales floating that people get denied jobs there because they don't speak Russian. But hopefully they won't hold my lack of Russian language skills against. me!

11. It doesn't surprise me that you work in a library, Lavender.
Anyone with a literary character screen name is a natural for the environment! :) Are you working on an MLS? Will your library pay for you to get one?

22. Thank you, Sistah!
Your good wishes helped me, I'm sure--the interview went very well! :hi:

I haven't posted any of the DC shots, since most of them are of throngs of people who could be jamming the streets of Any City USA. There are actually a couple cute shots of you, but I look so hideous in them that I refuse to post them for public consumption! lol I'll email them to you, if you want 'em, along with some of the shots of people sleeping in the Smithsonian.

24. I'd love to have them
and some of the crowd shots too - since yours will be better than mine, I'm sure. You have my email, I think. If not, let me know and I'll pm it to you.

And, yay!!!! I'm glad the interview went well. Now, good thoughts coming from me to make them hire you.

23. Thanks.
OT, you changed your name to include the word "maverick"? Are you reclaiming the word for the good guys after it's shameless abuse by McCain and Palin during the election? :P
