Have you ever wondered why you have shingles?
Likely, you are in Australia at the roadside.

Glad I could help (salute, salute).

Bad copycat:

1. When I do
it will be due to that varicella zoster infection I had as a child.

2. I just assumed I had shingles ...
so the roof would shed water.

I suppose I could substitute a thatch roof, but then someone would ask if I wondered why I have thatch.

:hi:

4. I don't even know what shingles are.
So I am pretty sure I don't have them.

5. Have you ever had Chicken Pox?
If so, then you have the Varicella zoster virus, and may potentially, at some point, develop Shingles when your immune system weakens enough to let it thrive again.

7. I had shingles 20 years ago when I first contracted hiv
22 years old and I had shingles. and it BURNS!!! I was on tylox for two weeks while I waited for it to heal. I had the markings on my torso for about a year afterwords. Shingles is not fun. Esp.when you try to lie down to go to sleep.

10. Thanks pierre!
I have been one of the lucky ones.I have had the shingles once, bell's palsy three times, and several bouts of pneumonia. Other than that, I am still pretty healthy. I have been taking meds since day one and I think that is very important. So many people would rather get sick and risk dying just because they don't want to take a fistfull of meds every morning. (my ex,my roommate)

6. That's REALLY weird---I just had shingles ( only time in my life) last week
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 12:07 AM by abq e streeter
and damn right I wonder why I got 'em.... The nurse practitioner I saw thinks some kid I teach probably had the chickenpox virus...Lucky i caught it early and it was only bad for a few days. Or , as the above poster said, maybe it was dormant in me all these years after childhood chickenpox; I did run myself down pretty badly lately; overdoing it in the gym, forgetting to eat , sleeping odd hours... kinda freaky that someone would post about it right after having it...( cue twilight zone music now)

8. It is dormant inside you
if you had EVER had chicken pox. You CAN NOT CATCH Shingles, it is a reactivation of the Zoster virus due to a weakening of the immune system for various reasons, as Roon pointed out, HIV is one, Stress is another.
