I have now put my 85 year old father on an allowance, his has a prepaid debt card.
He so screwed up his bank accounts that I have now taken over.

It is hell to become a parent to your parents.

He bounced checks, now I get to deal with that.

We were at the bank half a day yesterday dealing with this.

This will never happen again.

1. I had power of attorney on dad.
He couldn't do finances anymore. It was the least I could do for my dad. He's gone now and I miss him very much.

3. That is the next thing we will be doing.
My father has been OK dealing with his money but not now.

I have been trying to let him be in control.

It is a good thing he uses a neighborhood bank and not one of the big ones.

You can never be prepared for parent to your parents.

The funny thing is that I really never knew him growing up.

My older brothers and sister did and they don't give a damn.

I don't really trust them either.

2. My sister does my dad's finances
but it still hasn't stopped him from taking care of my grown brothers who live with him. On the upside, he would have to be put somewhere if he didn't have someone there 24/7.

4. My father lives down the street with two neighbors.
They can still take care of themselves and I can check on them everyday.

I don't want to put my father in an home.
