Damn, this is a stressful process. We also screwed up paying some taxes last year and have a bigger tax bill than anticipated, which sort of threw a wrench into our plans. However, some careful cash flow analysis shows we will be o.k. with the down payment etc. A friend is also willing to loan us some money via Circle Lending or similar to give us a cushion during the closing period, and then we will pay him back after that $8,000 fed tax credit for home buying comes through. That really gives some stress relief, although I'm still trying to convince my wife she doesn't need to sell her wedding dress for us to buy a house.
Now the problem is that the house we really love, not big but on great land, the one in the perfect school district for our oldest son to start kindergarten in...yeah, the sellers refused our initial and 2nd higher offer. the motherfuckers. Well, maybe they'll come around. In the meantime the hunt continues.
Oh, and get this: our son's best friend today told him all about how people who live in apartments are poor, that they can't afford nice places to live and that it's really awful living in an apartment. Guess where we live? Says friend's parent to my wife: "gee, where did she get that from?" Gee, I wonder too, asshole. I'll remember that comment at Xmas.
I swear, I have never in my life been tempted to drink for anything other than recreational or taste purposes. Getting hammered is starting to sound like a good idea just for the escapism. The thought of the large # of family alcoholics is holding me back though...
