Have TV shows become a lot tamer?
I've been watching a few series from the early to mid-90's lately, and it seems like they could show a lot more on TV than they can now.

I'm talking stuff like people getting their arms ripped off, teachers seducing their VERY underage students, people being microwaved, whole plotlines that take place in brothels... all kinds of good stuff.

Are there any shows like that now?

3. One can only hope
I'd rather have clever plot twists, clever humor, and interesting story lines.

6. Sadly, some people think today's shows have more wit than those from yesteryear...
:wtf:

11. I find wit in television programing to be in short supply, then and now.
I think today's TV programming is a hell of a lot less hokey than anything broadcast in the 30 years between "Leave It to Beaver" and "The Cosby Show" though. That crap was unbearable.

Wit in TV would be refreshing and new as a concept. As any Shakespearean actor can tell you, true wit is both subtle and ribald. TV as a medium has rarely been subtle and ribaldry is far less common than outright crudity.

4. What about f#$king "Deadwood"
Not too tame - took place in a brothel, Veronica Mars got shot through the eye in one episode (very gruesome), and Ian McShane ocassionally used a bad word...

8. Deadwood was on HBO
All the other shows I'm talking about were broadcast shows in prime time.

5. Ummm...a fellow's arm was ripped off on LOST just 4 or 5 weeks ago
That's really the only main drama I watch these days, so I'm not sure what else is out there, but I don't think things are tamer these days.

13. Catch "Breaking Bad" sometime.
It can get pretty gory at times. But it's a great show. Love it!
