Best Black and White Movie ever...any ideas?
Edited on Sun Apr-05-09 08:45 PM by Stuart G
Oh here are a couple to start...

Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon.
If I had to choose, Falcon, cause Sydney Greenstreet is a gas.

It's about as dark a comedy as you'll ever see, with some truly jarring and disturbing sequences. The rape scene was out of the fucking blue, and hits like a hammer blow to the sternum.

36. Oh, excellent choice.
One of Kurosawa's overlooked films. I haven't seen it in a long time and I'm glad you reminded me of it. You can pick any of Kurosawa's films.

The guy on the cover, Takashi Shimura, was also in the original Godzilla (another damn fine b&w movie). Kurosawa and Godzilla director Ishiro Honda were very close friends, and Honda even directed a couple segments of Kurosawa's movie Dreams (Mount Fuji In Red and The Tunnel).

Shimura and fellow actor Toshiro Mifune were both great at their craft, and Mifune was awesome in Kurosawa's Red Beard.

46. Another very good one, "12 Angry Men, Question..I wonder
if the memorable scene in the jury room, with the heat and trickles of sweat running down, would have been better in color. There is something about that black and white scene that stays in my mind. Perhaps it is the image in my mind, trying to feel it, as opposed to looking at the colors of the room. I recall a fan blowing in the room too. It just seems more stark in B and W.
