A vacation I'll be lucky to survive... literally
Going to PHX on Saturday for a week to do some photography. Hope to get up to Page AZ and the slot canyons, the Grand Canyon, over towards Tuscon and ending up in El Paso.

Between swine flu, Mexican drug gangs, and the likelihood of me getting heatstroke or having a heart attack or simply falling into a canyon, or flash flooding in the slot canyons, I'll be amazed if I emerge unscathed.

So, in case I don't make it back, I should say it's been nice knowing you all. Well, most of you all.

:scared:

Low 80's to low 90's isn't too bad. I have a friend who likes to go to Death Valley in April to see the wildflowers.
You're going on a trip! :bounce: not :scared: !

6. There is a canyon just a few miles north of Soccorro N.M.
That looks a lot like Navajo Canyon, very cool place, but quite dicey around late July, and most of August. Enjoy your trip and post lots of pictures when you get back.

10. Maybe people don't try and spell it very often.
I think the ratings are based on number of times the city has been misspelled by the media.

11. Compounding matters is that there is an H-less Pittsburg, in Kansas.
home of the Pittsburg State Gorillas. Seriesly.

Does the media really try to spell Culpeper, Va. that much more often than Kealakekua?

13. Well, I survived Detroit last weekend...
Still, managed to beat up one knee and twist the other ankle. Was smart enough to NOT try to crawl backwards thru a window and down a 30 foot ladder into an abandoned basement though... and didn't get mugged or accosted by crazy folks.

Tucson is misspelt, even when spelled correctly.

14. GO to the Desert Botanic Gardens in Phoenix. PLEASE ! You will kick yourself if

and here's why:

we went.
it was fabulous
make reservations or you won't get in.
go late in the day if you can to get photos in the waning light. We went mid afternoon because that is what we could get.

WELL WORTH IT.

Oh enjoy the slot canyons, Grand Canyon and other stuff. In ElPaso you won't be too far from White Sands which is pretty interesting too.

15. funny you mention that...
I've seen some shots from that exhibit... it looked like "gazing balls" just dumped in someone's backyard. Maybe it was just a crap photographer...

17. I'll be spending the night in Page on my way to CA from TX
I'll be flying my own plane into Page. We'll probably take in a boat ride that night on Lake Powell and then get up in the morning and do some aerial sightseeing around the area before I continue on to CA.

We'll be taking in the San Francisco volcano range, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, and I might make a pass over the Grand Canyon while I'm in the neighborhood. I'm looking forward to some of the best aerial scenery in the US.
