I'm going to read this poem tomorrow at the open mic...
"Me"

Has anyone seen
Me?

I’ve been missing hereabouts for such a long time
I ran away from everything, everyone
Even from myself, it seems

And now I can’t find
Me.

It’s a strange feeling
Missing me

I look in the mirror and there’s a girl I don’t recognize
She looks wistful, sad, lost

Nothing like I look
Not at all.

But she’s always there when I look
Strange

I don’t know where to go, or what to do
Now, with myself, or whoever I am

I have a helium balloon inside
And it’s going to lift me right out of here any minute now.

Maybe then
I’ll be able to

Find me.

1. My, what a provocative composition!
Oh, the crowd's going to love that one.

Be prepared, maybe, for a few perplexed expressions as people wonder how much that poem is THEM!

To the extent that it describes our splits in identity, it's deliciously creepy, if you don't mind my saying so.

:loveya:

2. My dear NYC_SKP!
I hope they will...

Yeah, I expect they might be perplexed...

I wanted it to be a little weird!

My sort-of existential poem, if you will...

And I don't mind your calling it deliciously creepy! I think that's a very apt description, actually...

Thank you!

;)

I don't think you've ever commented before on a poem of mine, and this is a helluva way to begin, thank you so much!

I hope to really get them going tomorrow...

4. thanks Peggy
Hi Peggy,
Interesting poem once again. Not sure what you had in mind with the line about the balloon lifting you right out, but I do like that thought. As I sit and type this I am thinking I do have things that lift me right out of where I am if I am in a bad place. Whoops, I am probably reading way too much into this, but hey, we can all have our own interpretations of art right? Take care and I hope you are feeling better, this piece does have a melancholy feel to me.

Peace

6. My dear hibbing!
The line about the helium balloon just came to me as I considered that I wanted to "lighten" the mood a bit, and change directions...

As soon as I put it down, I thought it would really work.

And I wasn't feeling badly at all...

Just playing with some emotions that I could see...

But they weren't really me.

Not to worry, sweetie...

And thank you.

11. I'm not a big fan of poetry, I admit.
I usually click on the poetry threads and leave wondering what the hell it meant without responding, while respecting the intent of the poet. This entry, I did like and felt I should respond.

12. It isn't always easy to see the poet's intent, if any.
I appreciate your comments a great deal.

Thank you!

40. I understand your expression there.
For what is the meaning of me
other then what you want to be.

I have heard the sentiment in that post before
its partly in this song.
