It's my puppy's first birthday! (photos for those who need a "cute" fix)
I lost my 11 year old poodle in February 2008 and I was devastated! I swore I'd never get another dog ... but then I was chosen by a schnoodle. :loveya:

Last year at this time, I was still grieving. What a difference a year makes! Our house is alive again and we went a little overboard with Ozzy's birthday celebration, LOL! We may be crazy, but we had a lot of fun! :D

This is Ozzy, two days after I got him. He was 10 weeks old.

Ozzy celebrates his "Cinco de Mayo" birthday ... with a sombrero!

A big bag of gifts with a rawhide card ... and Ozzy can't wait to see what's inside!

...

"Um ... is that cake for me?"

"IT IS!!!!!"

(NOTE: It's a doggy-safe cake from the "Doggy Desserts" book.)

Hmmm ... good cake!

"Awww Mom ... do I have to wear the hat?"

"Sorry Mom ... I've gotta be me!"

I hope you enjoyed the pix! :hi:

4. The cake was fun to make.
I've never made a cake for a dog before, but I have a "Doggy Desserts" cookbook and the recipe sounded pretty good. I know it's silly, but he makes us so happy and I knew he'd enjoy the cake. (It was an apple cake - he LOVES apples!) He was fascinated by the candle, LOL! We enjoyed it, too. We were very surprised ... it tasted good! :D

5. What! You ate the doggy cake??
I didn't know it was human-edible, too.
I confess. I sometimes make the little princess of our family dog treats using baby food and wheat germ. But I have never had the courage to eat one myself. Besides, the pup wants all of them for herself and her pup friends at the park.

7. The cake is doggy-safe AND human-safe, LOL!
There was nothing gross in it, like liver or bone meal. It was apples, honey, an egg, wheat flour, wheat germ and the frosting was honey and cream cheese. Obviously, even though the ingredients are safe for the dog to eat, you can't let him eat the whole thing. He got a little piece. It was nice to be able to give him a special "sweet treat" for his birthday and we were glad we could share it. We figured it would taste horrible, but it was good. Not as moist or sweet as a "people" cake - it was more like an apple bread.

Ozzy's on a homemade diet, so I make all of his meals. I also make his treats, dog biscuits, etc. and the recipes are "safe" for humans, though some of them don't appeal to me at all, LOL! I've tried some of the homemade dog biscuits. Most don't have any flavor that I can detect and they're very dry. That's why I was so surprised that the cake was good. :D

13. It's very soft.
With a schnoodle, you never know if he's going to end up with the coarse, schnauzer hair or the soft, poodle hair. Ozzy got the poodle hair ... but there are a few strands of coarse, brown hair running through the soft, cream-colored curls. I don't mind - I can't feel them when I hug him, so he always feels like a little teddy bear. :)

17. You mean a soft fuzzy schnoodle puppy could grow up to

be like a wiry Schnauzer? Just when I was thinking I'd like a schnoodle. . .

21. The puppy coat can change
He had a brown, wiry patch on his back when he was a puppy. It was totally different color and texture than the rest of his coat. His chest and belly hair was a bit wiry, too. That all pretty much disappeared when he lost the puppy coat, though his chest area is still not as soft as the rest of him. His coat is soft, but it's not as soft as the puppy coat.

The majority of schnoodles that I've seen in pictures all have the softer coat, but there are some that have a wiry coat. They're still very cute, they're just not as fluffy. :-)
