we've come a loooooooooooong way from when they were all on the beach together. Now half are dead or in some weird other dimension, and the main losties are seperated by 30 years and now in enemy camps opposing eachother. This show is coming closer and closer to Lord of the Flies.

55. My thoughts on that....
If this is Locke's mission (and he's not saying this just to screw with Ben's head) then I think this is what Jacob wants him to do. Jacob told Locke "help me!" when they met, so I think Locke needs to set Jacob free somehow.

Jacob didn't appear to Ben, but he appeared to Locke so perhaps there is a physical form after all.

and he needs to be killed. It sets him free? Then Locke officially takes over? Hard to say. I think Locke sees him in a way that nobody ever has. That freaks Ben and Richard out.

78. Taking it one step further

Jacob (maybe the previous island leader) is being held hostage by ????. More than likely Richard.

Up till recently Richard seemed to be a good guy. All knowing, all seeing. But we are finding out that many of Richard's actions have been directed by Locke's time tripping. Richard may be the evil from which the island needs to be saved.

When he first showed up, Richard commented that last time he saw him was three years ago, so why flip back three years just for Richard to pull the bullet out and to give him a compass?

we were led to think that the Island told Richard to show up in the nick of time to pull the bullet out of Locke's leg and tell Locke he would have to die. Now we know that it wasn't the Island but Locke himself.

Richard is timeless. He never ages, and he's always there. Perhaps trapped there - maybe related to Jacob, who knows I don't know any spoilers so is all guess work but Richard is some kind of constant (and evidently Desmond Hume is too so I expect we'll be seeing more of him - his dreams of the island, pressing the button all those years, helping even after he had left). Very interesting. Wonder if the 2 part finale next week will be by the writing team of Lindelof and Cuse. They write my favorite eps usually. Can't wait! :bounce:

*on edit: I just looked it up and sure enough next week's two parter IS written by Lindelof and Cuse! Now I'm super-excited!! :)

75. I see Kate as a walking train wreck. Anyone that gets involved with her
tends to regret it. Let her team up with Jack, as they are both equally messed up. Sawyer and Juilent have found some happiness and Kate will only ruin that. It's not like Sawyer will find happiness with Kate. She is like a flame for moths, attractive but deadly.

84. I agree she's the total trainwreck...
She is the cute gal with a great smile but has a history that will follow her till the day she dies.

I equate her with Syid. They are similar in the respect that they both have tragic histories. Syid, as much as I really enjoy his character, I think he will die.

Kate, I think will meet the same fate, sadly.

But remember this: Kate has more to gain by history NOT being reset. So that will make for some truly interesting interactions from this point on.

89. I thought about that. You have to figure her and Locke both would not be happy
with a do over.

93. According to the LOSTpedia that's not possible
<<Born in rural Iowa in 1977, Katherine Anne Austen was raised by her mother, Diane, and Sam Austen, whom Kate believed to be her biological father. However, her actual biological father was a man named Wayne>>

76. Follow the leader
Alpert and Ben followed Jacob. Alpert and Ben followed Locke. Is Locke following Jacob("Help me")? Jack followed Faraday. Eloise followed Jack. Eloise followed Faraday. Alpert followed Jack. Alpert followed Eloise. Sayid followed Jack. Chang followed Faraday. Phil followed Radzinsky. Sawyer wished he had followed Juliet onto the sub in 1974. Juliet was glad she followed Sawyer and stuck around the Island for 3 years. Baby Miles and his mother followed the orders of Chang. Jack seems to wish he had followed Locke all along.

Good to see an answer to how Alpert knew that Locke had the bullet in his leg by the plane. Ben said dead is dead, so Locke must be dead. So dead Locke told never dead Alpert to save living Locke who was a few feet away so that he could tell living Locke to die in order to get everyone back on the Island so that they could be the cause of their own suffering and all die while never dead Alpert watched it all happen only to find out that dead Locke was going to be a problem and that Ben killed living Locke only to not really kill him because dead Locke had to be there to save himself from dying so that living Locke could die before never dead Alpert actually took the bullet out of living Locke's leg.

77. How old is the compass, and where did it start out?
Edited on Thu May-07-09 09:54 AM by hedgehog
If Richard gives Locke a 3 year old compass, then Locke gives Richard a three year old compass to give Locke, then it repeats....

Any other Trekkies remember the antique eye glasses Mccoy bought Kirk?

79. How many episodes are there in Season 5?
I wait to watch Lost on DVD. Is it a regular season length?

*My arm keeps getting twisted until I'm forced to click on these Lost threads to drown in spoiler morass.

95. Only 17 eps in Season 5 - same for season 6
Was going to just be 16, but the writers strike forced a shortend 4th season adding 1 more ep to both seasons 5 and 6. Judging by the excellent ratings Lost has been getting this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see them lengthen season 6 or to fund a season 7. Right now the show is set to end next season with season 6. :(

However - next week's is a 2 hr season finale that should be epic! Then you are free to watch. :)

I recommend you just watch them on ABC's website rather than waiting for the DVD's. Last year they had every ep up til or through the finale. Not sure bout this year since they are available on the torrent sites i haven't checked abc's website for awhile.

Enjoy - easily the best season so far!

96. Only 17 - I guess I'll watch it anyway.

;)

These shortened seasons allow me to catch up on my various series. I watch two shows on Fridays nights, then another on Sunday evenings. And that's one episode a week for each one. The next Lost DVD release is 18 December. By then the spoilers I've been forced to read will have been forgotten.

80. I have a question:
HOW in the world would you detonate a hydrogen bomb from the 1950's? It's not like there's a big red button on Jughead that Jack can just push. Do you hit it with a big stick? Do you light dynamite underneath it? What do you do if you're stupid enough to want to detonate it?

85. Like most nukes...
Edited on Thu May-07-09 01:43 PM by Javaman
they usually have a fail safe detonator. Meaning, even on air dropped nukes, as Jughead appears to be, you usually need two people to activate the initiator aka to arm it. Once armed, it's live and from that point on, it can be, in this case, dropped.

Unless of course, since the bomb didn't explode the first time around, logic would dictate that it's technically still armed. :scared:

And as per tests in the nevada desert, above ground detonations appear to do more damage, so a proximity fuse is employed. When it reaches a certain altitude, boom.

So several things are going on here, either 1) it wasn't armed 2) it was armed and the detonator failed 3) all of the above plus the proximity fuse failed. That's basically a catastrophic failure. At which point a retrieval team goes in to find it. (probably were all the military garb the others are wearing came from, or my theory, the others infiltrated the US Army to prevent the bomb from detonating)

Anyway, my other theory is: the bomb has a breach and is "leaking". If this is an actual hydrogen bomb, an atomic detonation is required for the hydrogen end of the bomb to take effect. So what exactly is "leaking?
I think what will happen is when they try and detonate the bomb, it doesn't go off in the traditional fashion but instead sends out an electromagnetic burst, basically frying all electronics and electrical based "things" aka the energy source under the Swan.

The subsequent seasons do become addictive, so don't give up, if you find season two a little flat. :hi:

Lucky. For months all I had was an image of Jack and Locke looking down a hole with a broken ladder. What the hell is down there!!! As of right now, that was my 2nd favorite season finale.

103. Is the conclusion, then, that all the plane survivors
were once on the island, and died, and then landed again to... what, exactly?

And where are Bernard and Rose and the other survivors who were on the beach?
