Anything Fun to Do/Good to Eat in Philly?
Going there this weekend to visit family, and I've never been before.

Rocky Statue, Liberty Bell, Pats & Genos... yeah yeah

I'm looking for some cool "locals only" stuff and I promise not to embarrass you too much with my flowerdy shirt and camera.

3. They have a very pathetic professional football history.
A team that has never won a Super Bowl.

8. John's Roast Pork
Don't fall for that line about Pat's or Geno's. :wtf:

you want your cheesesteak or pork or whatever, John's Roast Pork. I've seen cops there everytime I've gone so either it's unsafe or the food is good --and those cops weren't busy, soooo... :hide:

You can even buy Tastycakes to go with your sandwich. :P

Holy Cow, they even have a website!

10. See if you can get reservations at the Barnes Foundation
Edited on Wed May-20-09 07:41 PM by The empressof all
It is probably one of the top 10 small museums in the entire world. The collection is so beautiful that I am reduced to tears every time I have visited.

Trust me.....You won't forget an afternoon spent there. Try to get in on a docet tour.

11. Run up and down the steps at the art museum
while humming the tune from Rocky.

People look at you weird, but it's fun.

13. The without-which-nothing is the Victor Cafe
Opera-singing waiters. Granted, they do that at Macaroni Grill now, but these are opera-singing waiters who can really sing:
http://www.victorcafe.com/
If you're going to Pat's anyway (not Geno's) you might also enjoy the Italian Market
http://www.phillyitalianmarket.com/
Also nearby is Marra's; we used to like their pizza:
http://www.marras1.com/
In West Philly and Germantown, Dahlak has great Ethiopian/Eritrean food:
http://www.dahlakrestaurant.com/
Philadelphia Art Museum is awesome and can't be missed:
http://www.philamuseum.org/
Franklin Institute is really fun:
http://www2.fi.edu/
Rodin Museum is very good:
http://www.rodinmuseum.org/
Wissahickon Park is spectacular. Probably not workable to hike it on just a weekend visit, but if you have access to a car, Valley Green Inn (in the park) is worth the visit:
http://www.valleygreeninn.com/

I freely admit that I haven't lived in Philly in over 20 years, but I've been back to visit from time to time, and keep up with stuff there.

20. The obvious suggestions:
The Philadelphia Art Museum - run up the steps, just like Rocky. When you get to the top, jump in place with your arms in the air. Believe me - you'll see others doing that very same thing. I've done it more times than I would care to admit. :7

The Philadelphia Zoo - VERY nice.

The Constitution Center/Independence Hall - for the obvious reasons.

South Street is a GREAT place for shopping. Very eclectic.

I believe the Phillies are going to be in NY this weekend, but the stadium is gorgeous. Try to at least drive by - you can see the inside very easily.

Hope you have a great time! :)
