well maybe aside from thomcat and newjeff's kid but not newjeff himself.

Yeah, i know its not very ethical but in all fairness I love her more. I am also pretty sure, if the situation was turned around, she would save me over her kitty friends.

1. That's fine. I don't need saving.
I swam competitively in college and was also a trained diver in Army SF. The cat would drown long before I would.

3. The problem with saving drowning loungers is the distance that must be traveled.
I mean, if California Peggy was drowning, it would take me at least 9 hours to get there, and at that point she'd be a blue as a tuna and as puffy as, well, a puffer fish.

So why bother? I'll just eat some Andy Capp's (tm) Hot Fries and read about how you all drowned on line.

:D

5. You're delusional if you think your cat is jumping into water to save you.
The last thing you'll hear is meow-speak for "hey, how do you use a can opener?"

:P

9. Yeah, but what are you making for dinner?
I'm making corn chowder with garlic, red pepper, Vidalia onion, Lancaster county mushrooms, cracked black pepper, and fresh herbs and spinach from the garden. I got some butter-n-sugar corn yesterday that was incredible. There's enough left over for chowder.

11. We are fortunate to have a family owned chain of grocery stores.
Yes, they still exist. They get produce as close to local as possible. They even rival the farmer's market in quality and "localness". I've got a Giant within walking distance and don't bother shopping there. They're way too expensive and all of the produce comes from, I don't even know - Mars maybe. It sucks.

This corn was from Florida. As it becomes available closer to home, they work their way up the coast until they get SO local that the stores on the East side of the river have corn from the East side of the river and the stores on the West side have corn from the West side!!! Fresh stuff!

14. Cats are cool
Edited on Fri May-22-09 12:32 PM by Big Ugly Tall Texan
New to the forum and trying to get my feet wet enough to start a thread while not pissing people off too much.

I would not have understood this premise 13 years ago.

I was strictly a dog person and even then they weren't pets - only working dogs. When I was a kid, if we had a dog that couldn't herd cattle or hogs or chase white-tailed deer, we knocked it in the head because we couldn't afford to feed it.

Cats were dog food.

I had one dog as an adult and it also wasn't a pet. I was the narcotics detection canine handler for a small West Texas police department. My dog became a pet to my kids, but he was just a law enforcement tool to me.

Then we got Fluffy in January 1997.

She was just a kitten and slept in a shoe box.

She very soon became a part of the family and almost like a third child. In fact, I wish my kids behaved a well as she does.

She goes where she wants, sleeps where she wants, and eats food that costs more than the stuff I shove in my mouth every day.

I am not looking forward to the day when she dies.

We picked up a second cat a few months ago. Angel looks a lot like Fluffy but the old cat surely has not learned to accept the newest addition.

I learned that cats are cool.
