I need a recipe for camp hash browns ..
I'm in the fire tower with the basics. Potatoes, oil, onions.

1. Shred, soak in water for a few minutes (removes some of the starch)...
Then fry in hot oil. Turn once, when the bottom is golden brown.

Ta-dah!

3. That's all you need, DemoTex.
Heat your pan, add the oil, then saute up the onions until they're almost clear. Opaque is good. You want about half-inch hunks, and you can do that with a pocketknife.

While you're sauteing the onions cut up your taters. Don't peel 'em; just chuck out the parts with bad spots. Turn down your heat a bit, then throw the taters in with the onions. Stir 'em around until they're cooked through.

It's not as propane intensive as boiling the taters first, which you could also do, but is kinda silly. End result: they'll still taste good. Add Tabasco, ketchup, whatever you prefer. Good meal.

7. i boil my taters first
that way you can get them nice and crispy yet still have them cooked all the way through. pat them dry before you fry them. also, butter makes it better!!! LOTS of butter

if you're using onions too, cook them first then remove it to a bowl while you cook the taters. add the cooked ions back in at the end. eat with salt, pepper & ketchup
