When mixing alcoholic beverages
do you measure everything out? or use the "eyeball it" method?

I'm the eyeballin' type. Grab a handful of ice, pour a dollop of whatever, mix in the spirits of choice. My husband gets so aggravated with me. But if I'm in the mood to drink, I'm not in the mood to be precise.

I'm making margaritas right now. Sometimes they're really strong, sometimes not so much. But they're always good!

1. Depends on what I'm drinking.
If I'm making Captain and Coke Zero, I use a rocks glass, three ice cubes, a shade more than a shot of Captain, and the rest Coke Zero. It's the perfect mix. I can't use a tall glass or I'll get all messed up.

If I'm making a martini - well, nothing to measure. Ice cubes, vodka, a glance at the vermouth bottle, shake up, strain into a cold glass and add a couple of olives.

15. I keep my vodka in the freezer.
When I buy a new jar of martini olives, I pour out the liquid, and pour in vermouth.

Take a martini glass, pour in the frozen vodka, add an olive or two. If you really want to gild the lily (I only do this for guests), do the rim of the glass with a twist of lemon peel. Voila!

19. I keep the vodka in the freezer too. The olive idea is a good one!
I think I'll try that.

10. Just slightly, that being slightly thinner than an RCH. Precise measurements.

11. Actually, the RCH is a finer increment of measurement
They use the term in recording studios.

BTW, if you want to make an ultimate margarita...at a splash of Amaretto in there...

Also, you can make a margarita, and after you pour it add a small capful of blue curacao and it will have a blue to green to yellow effect.

20. Yes, yes they are
Also a dash of grenadine can help...gives it a fizzy orange color though...

6. I use the pulse method
Pour from the gallon bottle.

When the bottle looses enough weight, stop.

12. I always eyeball it...
There's something weird about being that precise while dealing with booze.

14. I always eyeball it
Measuring it seems so anal. Plus I like to make the drink extra strong, so I have to spend some time "correcting" it.

16. Depends on the drink - some cocktails demand precision, such as Aviation and El Floridita
some are far more forgiving and/or adjustable to taste, such as Negroni, Martini, Jasmine, Moscow Mule

and mixed drinks, of course, don't really need measurements, either - gin and tonic, rum and Coke, and so forth.

17. The only measuring I ever do is when I'm cooking something for the first time.
Edited on Sun Jun-07-09 04:05 PM by Jamastiene
Mixing drinks is not a science, in my book. I do it the same way you do and they always come out ok. My cooking comes out good too. If I've cooked something a few times, I know what it needs and it turns out good.

21. Any drink that seems a little harsh do this
just sneak in a tiny splash of brandy. Makes any whiskey or tequila, or sweet tea flavored vodka drink a lot smoother...

btw, has anyone else tried the sweet tea flavored vodkas? not bad.
