7. If you came of age during the 70's, you knew who they were
They were always on the radio. They didn't have a lot of huge chart topping hits, but their songs received a lot of play time over the entire decade and into the 80's. They were just one of those bands that appealed to a large demographic. I heard them so much I couldn't stand to listen to them for many years, but they have found their way back into my play lists. It's just good solid music.

9. Well, I did come of age in the 70s
but stopped listening to commercial radio in the mid-70s and switched completely over to public radio. I heard so much more variety and was exposed to so many more genres than I would have ever heard on commercial, as well as better rock and electronic. I got into the latter thanks to the commercial success of Kraftwerk, Synergy, Tangerine Dream, ELP and even Mike Oldfield, so if I ever heard Bread, I likely either didn't recognize them or didn't like them. Can't say now since I don't seek them out to find out if I do remember them...

10. I loved "If" so much when it came out
I would have to sit down and close my eyes and stop breathing just to hear the whole song. Even learned to play and sing it on guitar (not that you would wanna hear me sing!) and I still love that song.

11. But do you like green eggs and ham?
Me, I like bread and Bread.

This was my favorite:

I found her diary underneath a tree.
And started reading about me
The words shes written took me by surpise
Youd never read them in her eyes.
They said that she had found the love she waited for.
Wouldnt you know it, she wouldnt show it.

When she confronted with the writing there,
Simply pretended not to care.
I passed it off as just in keeping with
Her total disconcerting air
And though she tried to hide
The love that she denied,
Wouldnt you know it, she wouldnt show it.

And as I go through my life, I will give to her my wife
All the sweet things that I can find.

I found her diary underneath a tree.
And started reading about me.
The words began stick and tears to flow.
Her meaning now was clear to see.
The love shed waited for was someone else not me
Wouldnt you know it, she wouldnt show it.

And as I go through my life, I will wish for her his wife
All the sweet things that she can find
All the sweet things they can find

12. Bread was a totally schizophrenic band
The A sides of their singles would always be some sappy assed David Gates ballad, but the B sides would be some up tempo country-rock thing that sounded like a totally different band.

I liked the B sides better.
