24. Yes. Potentially up to 25 years. I'm still stunned, when I saw him this morning...

That's what makes it even harder; he was only 8 months old (I got him when he was 6 months old).

When a bird is so attached to you from the get go, and so comfortable, that's what makes it hurt more... they have such unique personalities... but Syzygy was truly unique... :(

Potentially, of course. Zoe died after 10 years and my vet told me stories of people who lose their birds after x number of years due to whatever. Like any critter, the year is an estimation. Anything can happen. :(

I know what it's like to lose a bird, how painful it is. I've had some birds who were sick for a while before they died, but I've also had a situation like yours when you find the bird dead in the morning. That happened with my last parrotlet, April. She seemed perfectly fine, then one day I found her dead on the bottom of the cage. I never found out why because I couldn't bring myself to have a necropsy done on her. I didn't have any other birds at the time so I didn't have to worry about that, and from what I understand, they can't always determine the cause of death any way.

What a cutie pie Syzygy was! I guess all you can do is give your other birds plenty of love and attention. RIP Syzygy.

Having lost a fur friend myself a few days ago I am very much aware of how you must feel. Be they bird, cat, dog, hamster, goldfish, turtle, pig, horse, cow, or human, all creatures have their way of reaching out and grabbing hold of our hearts and never letting go.
