Poll question: How could this already lousy week become worse for me?
To recap:

This coming weekend, I was supposed to drive 300 miles to Pennsylvania so that fellow DUer Lisa (a/k/a liberalhistorian) and I could finally meet after months of exchanging e-mails and phone calls. (She's in Ohio, I'm in Connecticut.) But we've had to postpone the meetup we had planned back around the first of the year and had eagerly anticipated. Why? Becuse the weather people are predicting a snowstorm on Friday, and because Lisa just found out that she's about to lose her job!

As if that doesn't have me in a state of depression all goddamned day, just as I'm getting ready to go to bed tonight, I get an e-mail from my buddy Dave, who I've known for 20+ years, that his father died on Tuesday afternoon. And I've known his parents almost as long as I've known Dave. In fact, on more than one occasion, Dave's mother and father have told me, "Dean, we think of you as family."

Given the above, let's discuss how my week could possibly get any worse!

2. sorry, Night Train....
You'll get to see Lisa some day. It's just a delay.

As for your friend's father, yeah, that sucks. Help your friend and his mother any way you can.

btw... I voted for the woodpecker one. That seems sorta harsh.

3. Fire's cool
I went with that one. But they're all pretty bad. Not to worry. You'd have to be the unluckiest person in the world for any of that stuff to happen.

Life is so like that at times. I guess it is so the other 11 months will be good.

Pretty sure that hydrophobic rodents don't eat vinyl, so I feel safe saying this without worry of jinxing you. Hope things look up soon and that you and Lisa can get together post haste.

9. None of the Above
The storm fizzles.

Lisa keeps her job and is given a long weekend for the heartache.

She realizes only a dink would let a storm keep him from her.

She goes to Philly anyway to meet other DU studmuffin BuffHistoryGuyWithPackage

could be worse

11. If it makes ya feel better...
Last week I finally got my car back after nearly totalling it in an accident in January. I drove it for TWO days and had to put it in a ditch in order to avoid a skidding car and head on collision. $1800 in damage to the car. Not a good week for me either. Keep your chin up, it'll get better. Always does.

14. Actually, it was Lisa's decision to postpone our meetup.
Since she's about to become unemployed, Lisa is understandably reticent to spent the money she had set aside for her share of our big weekend. And since I'm perpetually short of cash, I couldn't simply volunteer to foot the bill myself.

Bleah!

21. On the other hand:
As frustrating as the delay must surely be, at least you still have someone who thinks the world of you. That's quite a lot no matter how you slice it, and many would be delighted just to have that much.

And as terribly sad as it is to lose someone dear to you to death, all of us must walk that path one day. In the time you both were here on this earth you came to treasure this man, and he came to treasure you as he did his own family. That's quite a lot no matter how you slice it, and many would be delighted just to have that much.

I don't wish for you to have any more hurt and frustration in your week, so I'm not going to put any speculations on additional ways you could be kicked while down out there in the universe.

Just know we're here for you. :pals:

as a former OTR driver myself. Commercial radio does suck.

I know how both of you were looking forward to this. I'm out of money myself but couldn't we try a DU fund-raising drive for the trip? There are many good hearted DUers here. If we could get 1000 donations in a short period of time I'm sure we could see this thing through.

Sorry I couldn't think of a better idea to help you, sugar's low.
