The exam dream, with a twist.
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 12:02 PM by raccoon
For at least two decades I've been haunted by the "exam dream." You know, the one where you're going to take an exam and realized you are totally unprepared for it.

In the last few years, I still have the dream, but with a little twist. Such as last night's dream...

...I was totally unprepared for the exam. Apparently, what the teacher thought important and what I thought important were totally different things. I thought we might’ve discussed those things in class, but even so, they had nothing to do with the subject matter.

I got up and left without doing any of the exam. I wasn't working toward a degree anyway. I thought, I’ll just drop the course and take a WP (Withdrew Passing).

Anyone else have this experience? Maybe age has something to do with it; I'm approaching 60.

1. It'll be interesting to know if this is the last time you have the dream.
Sounds like your subconscience is finally done with it.

2. My variation...
I've had this dream a few times, and I don't know why.

It's usually the last semester of my undergrad or grad program and there's some class that I've signed up for but never bothered attending. The last time I had this dream, it was at the end of my PhD (in math) and I had signed up for some physics course. But for some reason, I could never make it to class. So during the last two weeks, I'm trying to catch up on a bunch of work for a class I don't even need. WTF?

3. That is almost exactly my dream, except
that I have to take the exam and I can't find the classroom.

God, I HATE that dream.

4. Bingo!
Either I can't find the classroom or I find it right at the end of the testing period.

6. Isn't that weird?
It's an agonizing dream and it's always math or some subject I hated.

5. The evolution of my exam dream has been similar.
When I was younger, I used to sweat it out and fear failure.

For several years now, though, I've been showing up for the exam or just deciding altogether it's not worth going. In my mind, I've moved from believing I absolutely need to take the course/exam to knowing that it's not important or I've already "passed my test."
