Has anyone here every done the *mystery shopper* thing?
There was a thread in here a week or so ago about it, I can't find it though. :(

I just always wondered if that was for real or not...can/do people actually make $$ doing that? Or is it *yet another* scam?

Thanks! :hi:

2. I did it for years, too.
When I was a teenager, I mystery-shopped for Taco Bell. They paid $10 per report, plus they reimbursed me for what I bought (I had to send receipts). It was pretty good for a high school kid's part-time job, but never anything close to what I'd have needed if I were paying actual bills back then. Great fun, though. :D

3. My sister did that for many years.
McDonald's restaurants and Walgreen drugstores. Had a good time, and did okay financially too as I recall.

5. I've wondered about this as well, dolo
but I didn't pursue it because it seemed like a scam. But responses on this thread seem to indicate otherwise.

As Inspector Abberline says: "That's interesting. That's *very* interesting."

6. I've been checking out some sites...
Seems most of the free ones only want like your email addy and such, so what's the worst they could do? It ain't like we all don't get enough spam to kill a mule as it is, what's a little more? :eyes:

7. I was mystery shopped once
A guy butted to the front of my line, I was working as a check out person at a drug store.

So he says "Tylenol isn't taxed right?"

ANd I say "That's right but the line starts back there."

The guy neatly puts exact change on the counter and walks out.

I rang up like 25 people and then rang in the sale and dropped the money in the drawer.

Turns out he was watching me from the parking lot and was waiting for me to pocket the money. He sat there for more than a half hour watcvhing me. In a note to my manager at the time I was told that I was the ONLY person they had ever done that to that had actualy put the money in the register. If I hadn't, they were ready and had pressed charges for the paltry $4.00 or whatever it was.

8. When I managed a restaurant we used to get them all the time
"spotters" - They'd come in, have a drink at the bar and watch the bartender like a hawk, then they'd sit down and have dinner. Then they'd write up EVERYTHING - the food, service, whether the bill was rung up correctly and did the cash go into the drawer. People got fired over those reports.

9. I did it once for a restaurant once
It was Michael Jordan's restaurant. The service was pretty bad, the wait long (not their fault) and my appetizer was cold. Main dish was ok though.

I generally hate those kind of restaurants (too loud, too corporate) so I had a hard time distinguishing my general dislike of the place with the actual service.
