Alley and I dropped our little trailer-sailor in the water at Redondo Beach's Kings Harbor. Since I got a chance to see whales last Sunday, Alley wanted us to return to the waters over the Redondo Sea Canyon.
Our boat is a Macgregor 25', with a easily (in theory) stepped (raised and lowered) mast, and a swing keel.
We motored out yesterday to dead calm, glassy water. Not much sailing, and no sign of whales, but because of the calm conditions and the presence of a buddy, we did a little swimming over the Redondo Sea Canyon.
Today, it was just us two, and a different ocean with increased seas, and winds. Alison was determined to go for another swim so I made her hang on to a mooring line. We turned into the wind and she took a dip with the line in hand. I did not relax until Alley was back in the boat safe and sound.
Flying boat!
Me and Alley in deep water, with the Palos Verde peninsula in the background. It's a little spooky diving into water that is over a 1,000' or more deep.
Here is our swing keel, well.. swung.
Today we had decent, gentle winds, fun swells, and got some time under sail.
Heeled over and making 5-6 knots.
Thanks for looking.
