If I could create an "Early 80's" Theme Park like Dollywood, what Musical
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 06:58 PM by KoKo01
Artists or Culture Mavens would you want me to include?

I'm looking for a business for the "Future" sort of based on the "Bed & Breakfast" models that some folks parents were so fond of.

I loved 80's music, but probably focus on the "Culture Club," "Hall & Oats" era....with Springsteen early Madonna and so many others.

Could I make money out of this? Where would I locate it? I think the Northeast? "Preppy" if any of you remember that, but it would be nice to have the "outlyers," too. But, any other ideas?

I think many acres of land with an Inn that played 80's all the time. But I don't know what theme it should have? What would be the really appealing thing or maybe my nostalgia for that era is misplaced. No one would come? What sports activities would appeal? "Mountain Biking, Hiking Trails, Doggy Parks?" Themes that you would like? Ohhh...and food...what would you want to eat the most so I could hire a chef that would serve it. Would you want it sophisticated or casual? LeCerc or Olive Garden?

What might you want when you are gray and the wrinkles are showing and you are looking back to where you've been and want to reconnect? Or, maybe "nostalgia" isn't really appealing?

1. an 80's Branson?
that could be cool. Make sure that you have an Anarchy Alley for all the punkers. Those still alive could use the Branson like gig. I can just see Johnny Lyndon playing to bunch of gray hairs while leaning against his walker. Iggy pop rolling about in the broken glass of his shattered IV bottle.

4. If I could do this I would need to talk to you! But, would you come for
"Anarchy Alley" and the punkers...? How could I blend the two?? thinking... Would you bring your family? Your kiddies? and what would you want in guest accomodations for that theme? (I was pretty
"mainstream" in music tastes as you can tell from my posts. :D

5. sure, build a Chelsea Hotel for Sid Vicious fans
we could keep room 100 booked solid.
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/chelsea.html

The blending wouldn't be so tough. Just a little side street off Journey Avenue. You could dupe all the classic spots in minature - cbgb's in NYC, the 9:30 Club in DC, Maxwell's in Hoboken NJ, the list would be endless. My (pre) teens would love it. Punk has made mainstream "comeback (ok, it isn't punk and it sucks) and the kids love it and all the old stuff. They love the fashion.

It would all be a nice walk down memory lane.

6. Ewwwww...go away. I want the "needle tracks" covered by a "button down"
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 07:58 PM by KoKo01
shirt or a "spread collar." Go away.....with that :D

I don't think many folks would bring family and kiddies to Sid Vicious, and if they did they would complain about what I would charge them for my "Nostalgia Vacation." LOL's

2. Have an 80's "area" but also have a 60's, 70's, and 90's too
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 07:05 PM by nu_duer
That way you'd triple the size of your target demographic. The areas would be separated somehow, of course, like the different areas of Disney World. But then what would visitors get to do in each "decade?" I could probably come up with a few things for the 60s area, lol. Nothing really says 80s to me, tho.

I once contemplated creating, in a me as a rich person fantasy, a "black and white" park something like TVLand, but in reality. Everything would be painted black, white, or different shades of gray. The workers would have worn makeup such to appear as they would on the old Dick Van Dyke show, or something like that. Didn't get too far into the thought process with that, so I don't know what visitors would do once they got there. Rides, I guess, and lodging.

Hmmm, that wasn't much help, was it?

3. You might have something there. Let me see what other posts I get, but
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 07:10 PM by KoKo01
you sort of expanded my view on this. You know I miss "FUN!" What you are talking about is more a Musical Era Theme Park. It' sounds Wonderful!

I don't have Disney type money, so I couldn't do that! :D BUT....you have an interesting idea there. Let me think about this.

I'm closer to your era, but LOVED 80's music. Myrtle Beach "Shag" is closer to my time...but they've done that.

Still......a theme park for "Musical Era's." OMG...wouldn't that be grand! And to dance all night..... That's what I'm looking for to create some place where folks can really have fun and relax and unwind but feel very at home....nostalgia.

7. Why would you *want* to create an early '80s theme park?
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 08:18 PM by NightTrain
How did the early '80s suck? Let me count the ways:

Reaganomics
James Watt
Ed Meese
"Where's the beef?"
Love Canal
ABSCAM
"Heaven's Gate" (the movie)
Toxic Shock Syndrome
the "Evil Empire" (Russia, that is)
John DeLorean
The Tylenol scare
Nicaraguan Contras
Grenada
U.S. support of Saddam Hussein
Margaret Thatcher
Falkland Islands
The Moral Majority
AIDS
Mad-slasher films and teen sex "comedies"
"Who shot J.R?"
"Go ahead, make my day."

The early '80s were a horrible time to be in your teens. And I should know; I was born in 1966.

8. Ohhhhh ...you are so cruel. But, it was the MUSIC that made the
difference. Just like the 60's/70's music made the Difference in that dark time.

The music was a "commonality." We haven't had that since the 80's. That's why I want my "Theme Park."

Don't you have some music that took "your head" awaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!

I do! It was my refuge from dark times!

9. Actually, "Night Train" I did try to access your site. You are into music
and "Night Train" music is way back....so I have a good feel for that.....so why would you ask that question? We had dark times in the old "night train" times when McCarthy was in charge and the Cold War was reigning?

Oh No! the 80's were neat......and the MUSIC!

13. I think my main problem with the '80s...
...is that I actually experienced them firsthand, unlike the '50s and '60s.

To me, things like McCarthyism and Vietnam are little more than what I've read about in books and seen in film documentaries. I know they were horrid events, but since I wasn't around back then, I have no bad personal memories connected to them. As such, it's far easier for me to overlook all the nastiness that occurred in the '50s and '60s and simply cherry-pick what I consider the best music of those decades.

As for the '70s and '80s: I was there, and they sucked! And that includes far too much of the music.

Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 10:21 PM by KoKo01
I'm not fooling putting this idea out. I'm looking for ideas of something that "I" really want to do?

No 80's DU'ers here who loved the music I love and are looking forward to nostalgic years?
