Question from a noob, for and about noobs

I still remember the *first* thread I hid.

Newb that I was, I started a I/P thread in GD. I made no commentary. I just passed on something that came across my RSS feed. It was over a day old, so not LBN, and I wondered why I hadn't seen it here. Well, I found out. It *had* been posted, just not in any of the main forums.

Several first occurred that day. It was my first "flaming" thread, the first time I got flamed, and the first time I flamed out. Finally, it went to the dungeon.

Then I hid the thing and did something else ...

18. Oh, just a random thing ...

The thread started by asking people to post random pics from their PhotoBucket account.

EastTennesseeDem had the misfortune of being new during a rare "name change" amnesty, so just as he was getting to know people, their names changed.

I found his post about it funny and so skinned DU locally to appear neon pink (well, closer to Pepto Bismol pink really) and then posted a screenshot of it.

I thought of that as a "random" pic to post in the afore mentioned thread, ergo, I was thinking about him earlier and found it funny that he commented on a "noob" thread when I'd thought of his "noob" thread earlier.

(That took way too long to explain ... hope it made sense.)

You never insult anyone other than a public figure. I don't flame anyone, and if someone insists on being uncivil to me, I'll just ignore them.

I ended up quitting a board where the admin actually chastised members for NOT flaming one another! :crazy:

19. Well, I still advise reading a lot and you'll understand the gist of what I'm saying about DU.

There are a good number of people here who do not deal well with views or opinions that do not agree with what they perceive to be the Liberal mainstream, meaning those who disagree with them. Read and you will be the wiser.

Here's another good piece of advice about posting: if a story is more than a half hour old do not bother posting it as Latest Breaking News because it is a good bet that at least 3 people have already beaten you to it. Things move fast at DU in the main forums and I like to say that news is not really news here unless it gets posted like nobody knows anything about it 3 or more times on the day it actually happens and then for the next 3 days.

Oh, and "ignore" is actually a good and useful feature here. Life is too short to have to put up with the crap that some will dish out and there are some who will draw you into a flame war in order to get you tombstoned (banned).
