1. I'm stunned. I can't believe she actually had sex with
her husband. Shocking.

2. Right I'm half expecting Don to do something stupid.
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 09:50 PM by Bucky
Like Don bailing the second that Carla says there's a problem with Sally.

Meanwhile Pete is continuing to enter the world of men. The neighbor tells him it's cool to boink, just keep your hands off MY au paire.

But now Trudy is... I dunno, it's like she wants to be wrong.

No... Peter... no! Don't confess!!

What a d-bag. In so many ways.

4. So what do you think Betty's thinking?
I'm watching the rebroadcast here. First she gets kissed by the Rockefeller aid, then plays him off, then tries to rekindle with Don, but when Don romances her (like it's a pick up) she ends up vaguely disatisfied again.

What on earth is going on in her mind?

5. She wants to play at being single again
Pretending Don was a stranger while she was pursued by the two Italians and Henry back home was what really made her happy (and then really mad when she was back to the grind).

6. Does Henry make her happy really? Or was it just the thrill of another "first" kiss?
I thought she was treating Henry the way she treated that automechanic last season. I was thinking about how she flirts to use her sexual appeal to get what she wants from men, to feel that power of getting men to give her things on her terms, but doesn't necessarily want to have affairs.

Only when Don gave her something at the end, she didn't get the same turn on. What a puzzle she is.

10. Are they possibly making Betty the poster girl for The Feminine Mystique?
She seemed to be pretty happy working to save the reservoir.

11. I do not think Henry makes her happy. I do not think she wanted to
kiss him. I think she wants to move to Europe.

7. I wonder whether she suffers from post-partum depression
or any kind of depression with her mood swings.

She was so nice and happy with Don in Rome and then coming back and playing the ice queen again.

12. A housewife's general malaise
She wants something big, something glamorous, but she doesn't know what that is. Don't forget that she was a model; she probably regrets what she gave up to be a suburban housewife and often wonders what life she would have led if she hadn't taken this particular path.

She's dissatisfied with the different avenues she has for thrills. They don't thrill her--local politics? Please. Picking up men? Too easy. She loved the glamour of Rome and wants that all the time. She wants a completely different life.

9. And what happened to Peggy?
And it was nice to see Joan again. I hope that we will continue to see her.

The tag on the dress said Bonwit Teller - boy, I remember this store from many many years ago, though never shopped there.

13. I kind of enjoyed the hyperfocus on just two couples this time
I missed everybody else too, but at least this episode provided lots of details about certain relationships instead of bouncing around willy nilly, trying to cover the entire cast of characters in one hour, which is sometimes what an ep feels like (not often, but sometimes).

14. Betty went to Rome to give Don a chance to woo her...

but all he really did was prove he's boring.

Another nail in the coffin for that marriage. The guy from the Gov's office is another powerful man

but he sees Betty as an interesting person. Plus he actually talks to her like a grown up.

And the romance in Rome faded as soon as she walked thru the door - She crashed back to earth...

Is it my imagination or did Joan look like a softer, nicer version that what she used to be.

Her makeup and clothes suggest that they are going to flesh out her character in a different

direction. When her resident Dr. husband gets testy, he is Outta there.
