Have this unfortunate habit of picking up pretty things now and then if they're on sale...stuff
I won't/can't use, but "it'll come in handy if....".
About a month ago, I'd both my vacuum cleaner AND my steam cleaner to the local fix-it store.
Despite the
"We no longer work on (my particular machines)
" sign on the wall, the guy behind the counter not only fixed them,
he didn't charge me a penny, for his time OR a belt and filter.

I was brought up to be courteous, and felt obligated to buy SOMETHING from his store, so I bought a very nice cinnamon-flavored deodorizing candle-in-a-jar. Very attractive it was, too...
It came in handy yesterday. I'd been invited to a Thanksgiving potluck (my part: the appetizers), and I wanted to bring a hostess gift. Our hostess doesn't drink (lets out a bottle of my best), flowers not a good idea for various reasons...what to do, what to do...then my eye fell on the candle I'd purchased.
PERFECT.
Not only does she like scented candles for their own sake, she has a couple of elderly dogs who sometimes forget about going outside...so the odor-removal properties will come in very useful.
I love it when stuff like that happens...
