So religious christmas songs being taught in public schools?
I went to my mentee's Christmas choral show and the songs were @ half religious.
For me I thought not a big deal, since they were used to teach music not religion.
But I was wondering what your thoughts were?

1. I noticed a change in school Christmas programs
several years back. Now totally neutral songs are sung or played, ala Rudolph, Frosty, White Christmases, O Christmas Trees, Jingle Bells - although come to think of it, the word "Christmas" is never used in programs anymore, something generic like "Winter Festival" or such is used. I can understand that, but it was around the same time that Halloween celebrations were shelved also, in favor of Harvest Concerts, etc. But then, I live in a large urban area where there are lots of Muslim or Jewish or Hindu students . Maybe that trend will travel to rural areas one day as well.

year. They keep things a pretty good mix of different religions along with nonreligious stuff. A little something for everyone.

Since no one complains I guess it is working out ok.

Editing to add that we are a rural school. Grades K-8, 53 kids.

3. I got detention in High School once from throwing a fit over it, LOL.
My typical Aspie self, not understanding why everyone was getting upset because I was demanding that the 1st Amendment to be strictly adhered to.

4. I was in the choir in 5th and 6th grade in a public school
And we sang several religious Christmas songs for events at the school for relatives. This was in the early 80s.

5. My high school chorus sang Messiah.
Great experience for us all! (except maybe my father!)
