4. I liked the old Letterman show
which was on late, after Carson, & was really zany.

It was more comedy than now, & not too many glitzy stars.

Also had more musical guests, & they'd go on & on.

5. I remember it well
I was on college at the time and it was tradition to watch the old Letterman show on NBC. They sure goofed when they gave the Tonight Show to Leno.

11. I could never stand Johnny Carson.
I never thought he was the least bit funny. I also found him to be annoying. I voted for Letterman; I also used to like Dick Cavett.

I love both Late Night and the Late Show too..then Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart. :)

I like Johnny Carson too, but I've only seen stuff from the "best of" tapes.

20. I voted for Mike Douglas, because there were some bizarre moments...
For instance, the week that John Lennon and Yoko Ono were the guest hosts (Mike Douglas seemed really uncomfortable that week. :-))

And the week when Martha Mitchell, wife of Attorney General John Mitchell, was guest host for a week during Watergate. Martha kept telling these (then) wild stories about the White House trying to silence her (she claimed she had damning evidence about the involvment of the White House in the Watergate scandal)
