More people are coming late tonight or early in the morning.

I like the cold weather we having having now.

We will be having a turkey, ham and all the side dishes.

4. We are having
Edited on Fri Dec-25-09 04:25 PM by hippywife
an roasted duck, homemade harvard beets, jasmine rice with garlic, shallots, dried fruit and pecans, spinach salad, and homemade wheat semolina bread. We've been eating husband's homemade pumpkin pie all week so I'm not making any dessert. He still has one piece left and some homemade brown sugar ice cream he can have later.

Husband doesn't like ham and didn't want another turkey, we thought about a pork loin but all the coop producers were sold out, so I suggested duck since I've never made one before. It's just the two of us.

Enjoy your company and your holiday meal. :hi:

5. High tea
Lots of little open-face sandwiches Estonian-style. Egg and butter spread, cucumbers on herb butter spread, gorgonzola and herb butter spread, salmon spread, ham and herb butter, all decorated with bits of dill & stuff. Scones from Trader Joe's. My homemade chocolate biscotti, cannoli cookies and lemon poppyseed cookies. Big pot of tea.

And then if anyone is still hungry, I'll throw together a vegetarian lasagna. But I'm hoping they'll be too full for it.

6. On Christmas Eve we had
the traditional Italian fish dinner. I don't like fish, or seafood of any kind, so I didn't eat much.

Today on Christmas, we had antipasto, lasagna, ham, mashed potatoes, corn, rice. It was yummy!

9. The traditional for Christmas Day:
Roast turkey w/stuffing and gravy, red cabbage, mashed rutabaga, mashed potatoes, corn with sauteed red peppers, asparagus w/Hollandaise sauce, pumpkin pie and cheesecake with cherry topping. Oh, and cranberry sauce. It was great, if I do say so myself, but that could be the Bloody Mary I had while making the Hollandaise sauce.

Happy Holidays!!!

11. I made a truly wonderful 9 bean soup!
It's a fair amount of work, but most definitely worth it!

We also had a tossed green salad, and sourdough French bread, and for dessert, home-made pumpkin pie with either vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream...

It was great!

Enjoy your dinner tomorrow!

12. There is a big box under tree with my name on it.
Have to wait until tomorrow night to find out what it is.

Just being on the old farm is gift enough.

I don't know what the side dishes will be but they will be good.

14. Chinese food
Edited on Sat Dec-26-09 02:35 AM by AsahinaKimi
I always eat this on December 25th. Fried Tofu, mushrooms, Chicken fried rice, and pot stickers.
Silly question for my Mandarin speaking friends:

ru gou wo chi tso guo tsai, hue bian chen tso guo ren ma?
(if I eat too much Chinese food, will I become Chinese?)
haha..Just kidding!

15. We made slow cooker ham

It was a shank portion cooked with with brown sugar, cloves and pineapple cooked for eight hours. It literally falls off the bone and is the best ham I ever had! I didn't think it would come out as delecable as it did! Merry Christmas to me! :9

16. We had a great ham, bought right from the farmer, with "southern" sides:
Black eyed peas, sweet potatos, turnip greens and cornbread, plus Waldorf salad, whole cranberry sauce and 4 pies.

And went to bed early.

17. Shrimp sauteed in garlic butter and basil
Green salad, artisan bread, and beer if I feel like picking some up.

Yesterday was marinated chicken, green salad and mashed potatoes.

We don't really do holiday meals. This is the first decent Christmas we've had in at least 5 years, so we're pacing ourselves - no guests, my parents and sister are in Florida, my bro-in-law's out of town until the 29th, and the cats don't care. :D
