So how much is it to build a garage?
We are looking at buying a house although it will take an act of Congress, Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, Odin, Zeus, and many other pantheons to get us a mortgage. This one house we loved was great but had no garage and that was a big thing on my list that was non negotiable. So if anyone has any experience with this, how much would it be to build your basic two car garage? I'm talking simple no thrills, electricity running to it, garage door opener, and maybe a little extra space for storage.

1. Will you be doing it yourself?
Will the inside walls be sheetrocked, or left at studs?

Vinyl siding?

3. $40 to $50 per square foot.
Take maybe 15% off if you do it yourself.

I have an old house and there was never a garage on the property, so at least I didn't have to have an old one torn down. My new two-car garage is 20 x 22, included a concrete slab, wood siding, an attic with pull-down stairs, a window, a service door, electrical wiring, a double garage door with an electric opener, aluminum soffits, gutters and downspout, a service door, motion activated outside lights, and an asphalt driveway. The total cost came to about $22K. Hope that helps.

Here's a picture, building in progress:

6. $50 sq ft. But that includes driveway. Just about right. But you have
so many options when building like this.

7. we had a 3-car garage built 2 years ago...
we bought the house with an attached garage- but transformed that into a woodshop.
including a new driveway, it came in at just under 40K.
