What's Your Favorite Deli?
I got thinking about my favorite deli today. Yesterday was my Grandfather's 90th bday party. My Aunt got corned beef, pastrami, and roast beef from some city deli. We brought some leftovers and threw the rest of them out today because they suck. Tomorrow I'm gonna go get some excellent Corned Beef, Pastrami, and Turkey from my favorite Deli, Harold's in Edison, NJ

Everything is family style so the massive triple decker sandwiches, Cakes, Matzo Balls, etc shouldnt surprise, but they still do because of how massive they are (and they are damn good too). Oh and they have a huge pickle bar with all the rye bread you want.

mmmmm, i can taste it now.

1. There has to be at least one deli on Earth called Salvador's Deli.
Thanks, I'm here all week, try the veal!

3. There's a Sal's Deli across the street from my office.
Not quite what you were after though, was it?

7. Rupert Jee of Letterman fame...
.
...his deli is the "Hello Deli".
.
I think there's another "Hello Deli" in Albuquerque.
.
Perhaps the world's first vegan deli could be the "Deli Lama".

2. As far as I can tell...
.
...there was only one "authentic" Jewish full deli in Tucson -- Feig's
(they're gone now).
.
Every time I saw one of the local papers do a review on it, it would be
glowing, superlative, and hyperbole-packed.
.
I finally got a chance to eat there -- got a corned beef sandwich on
rye with mustard.
.
The only thing that could have been more disappointing is if they have
put a slice of bologna and some mayo on it. It was just awful.
.
VERY weird, Arby's (of all places) has a pretty decent Reuben (not
exceptional... but pretty decent) and Famous Sam's has an excellent
one -- they use pastrami and grill the sliced meat first -- m-m-m-m-m.
.

.

4. Whoa Nellie Deli, just east of Yosemite National Park
A strange place for a gourmet deli, inside a Mobil gas station, where CA Highway 395 meets Tioga Road (Highway 120). But very popular with visitors to Yosemite and the eastern Sierra Nevada, as most highway food is definitely lacking. Not cheap but definitely a cut above most resort/national park food. http://www.whoanelliedeli.com/

12. Sadly, even the best delis here in Chicago ...
... just don't compare to those in NYC, especially for those of us who like pastrami, fresh rye bread, and "full sour" pickles.
